My experience with The Dutton apartments in November 2023 was extremely disappointing due to inconsistent communication, mishandling of my application, and questionable qualification policies. I began the leasing process for a December move-in as an incoming PhD student. The issues started when I worked with Pamela, who initially told me I wasn't qualified for a $2,500/month unit but could qualify for a $2,200 one. After agreeing to switch units, I waited two days without receiving the lease. When I followed up, another agent, Maria, initially promised to send the lease within an hour but called back hours later to say I wasn't qualified at all, dismissing Pamela's previous approval as a new employee's mistake with no apology for the misinformation. The qualification policy appeared arbitrary and inconsistent. My PhD offer included a $43,320 stipend plus $50,000 in tuition scholarship. Maria stated they would only consider the stipend as income, yet confirmed they would approve someone with a $100,000 salary who chose to spend $50,000 on education. When questioned about this inconsistency, she repeatedly stated 'the company policy is trying to treat everyone fairly' without explaining the logic. The issues continued when my application was canceled without notice after I discussed potential solutions like adding a cosigner. Furthermore, when I inquired about other units, I was given incorrect information about available apartments and pricing that didn't match their website listings. Management demonstrated: Poor internal communication between staff Inconsistent application of rental qualification policies Lack of accountability for misinformation Insufficient knowledge of their own inventory and pricing Unprofessional handling of application process I would strongly caution other potential renters, especially students, about working with this property.Review fromJake W

I had a terrible experience renting from this company and would advise others to be cautious. When I needed repairs, there was no one available to assist me. My calls went unanswered, and the mailbox was full, making it impossible to reach anyone in the office. It's disappointing for a company to operate this way, as it shows a lack of respect for its tenants. Overall, I would not recommend them based on my experience.Review fromDj J

I would not recommend living at this apartment complex. My cat recently went missing, and despite the emotional toll, the management refused to allow us to post flyers or send a mass email to residents—even though they’ve done it before for other issues. This lack of compassion and inconsistency is incredibly frustrating. The apartments themselves are poorly maintained. There are no doors on the closets, no pantry for storage, drawers that barely open and close, and tubs that don’t drain properly. The trash cans are always overflowing, often with items that aren’t supposed to be in them, making the area look and smell awful. The package “room” is just an open closet where you can never find anything. On top of that, my packages have been stolen both from the package room and my front door, and management has done absolutely nothing to address it. The office is rarely staffed, so good luck getting any help when you need it. The gates are broken almost every other week, so the “security” they advertise is non-existent. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere. This place is not worth it.Review fromDaniela C

It’s been 25 days since I received a statement for my $500 refund - I have not received the email to collect my refund nor a check, email stated I should received the email for the refund 7-21 days and it’s been past that mark. I need answers. I keep getting the run around. Persea says they processed through accounting to the disperse company but the disperse company says they have not received anything under my name/ email.Review fromAshot A

NEVER MOVE IN TO A PROPERTY MANAGED BY GREYSTAR!!! I live in Glendale, CA in a 2 bedroom apartment with my wife and 2 kids. My landlord (Greystar property management) has been doing construction in my apartment for almost 5 weeks now. My leaving room is blocked, I had Asbestos warning in my apartment, they ruined my thanksgiving and are about to ruin my Christmas and new year. I am going above and beyond to make them finish this construction, but neither the property manager nor the contractor are being helpful. My leaving room was supposed to be blocked for one week only starting November 18th, but it is still blocked, construction unfinished and i highly doubt that they will finish it by Christmas. I need a lawyer to help me with filing legal Action against them to first make them finish this construction and free up my leaving room, as well as to get reasonable compensation.Review fromBrooke D

My experience living at Broadstone Ayrsley Apartments in Charlotte, NC, was devastating due to a severe mold infestation in my apartment. The issue caused significant health problems, destroyed 80% of my belongings, and left me with substantial financial losses. Items damaged by the mold included furniture, electronics, kitchenware, clothing, and irreplaceable sentimental keepsakes. Independent testing (that I paid for) revealed mold levels over 28,000% above EPA remediation thresholds, forcing me to vacate the property for my safety. In addition to the mold devastation, I faced numerous maintenance challenges, including broken AC units, a malfunctioning oven, and frequent fire alarms that disrupted daily life. Despite paying $1,564 monthly, I was left to cover extensive costs for vacating, salvaging belongings, mold testing, medical bills, and much more. I moved into Broadstone Ayrsley, excited about the “luxury living” element, and I left Broadstone Ayrsley With almost nothing and was devastated financially, emotionally, and physically. The financial and emotional toll of this experience has been overwhelming.Review fromJay L

My mom died on September 21, 2024 aged 84 several months after surgery and a stroke. I was mom's primary caregiver when I wasn't working. I was unemployed from June 21 to November 6, 2024. When she died the Social Security and VA benefit checks stopped and one was retracted. I was able to pay October rent which is normally $1870. Grace Church in Plano, Texas helped with a donation of $425. I was unable to pay the deficit. I started work again on November 7. I began writing the Orchards Market Plaza management several detailed emails requesting help, a release from my lease, another apartment more affordable if possible and a payment plan to pay for me rent to catch up. When I tried to pay $600 by paper check it was not processed at all. The manager Megan Shumway said she would work with me. To my shock, she had me fill out a form to grant me release from my lease but received no answer. I put in requests for repairs to a leak in my bathroom and a sewer smell. Maintenance requests are behind from September! I was promised a payment plan to help out but Katie reneged on the deal and told me to use the Resident Portal to make partial payments. After 7 times over the weekend of December 6th-9th, The system demanded full payment. The regional manager failed to ensure payment would process. I wrote the president of Greystar Bob for appeal, requesting a new apartment in light of emotional trauma suffered from my mom's death. I was told I would need a new lease contract that would require a high transfer fee. I was also told I would get a payment plan. Instead I was given a harsh deadline and a threat of eviction. The amount rose from $3270 to $3294. No flexibility, compassion and deliberate attempts to force me to pay with unreasonable deadlines and no working electronic payment system as well as refusal to take a paper check. Greystar is a unprofessional business with horrible customer service and refuses to provide maintenance, reasonable or no payment plans.
