Thrifty is a complete scam and I will never be renting from them again. The woman who checked me in pressured me to purchase all kinds of insurance and other add ons after repeatedly telling her I declined. I returned my rental with a full tank of gas. Two weeks after my trip and refund of my entire deposit (which I wasnt informed would be needed) I notice a charge to my bank account for tolls and fuel. I returned the vehicle with a completely full tank of gas!! And I never received a bill for any of my tolls! Complete money grab scam of a company. Ill pay more to rent from a reputable company next time.

I rented a car thru Expedia prepaid arrived at the pic up location and the person helping me told me he would upgrade me from a basic small car to a small suv for free. I didn't need the upgrade but he insisted it would be better so I said OK. They then charged me a extra 250 and said it was a hold and when I returned it it would get refunded. I turned it back it and now they are refusing to refund the 250. Don't ever rent from them they scammed me out of a extra 250 on something I had already pre paid for

First time renting from Thrifty. I rarely make the same mistake twice, so ... rented a car in ******* in September. Reserved the car March 3. My flights were changed by the airline 2 or 3 times. I could no longer pick up the car because I was arriving after they closed. Despite notifying them to try to work it out or cancel more than 30 days in advance, it could not be worked out and they refused a refund. Apparently, somewhere on the page it said Non-Refundable. (I didn't see it.) Well whether they can ******* do that is one thing, but whether they SHOULD is another. Logically, if they had allowed me to cancel and rebook another car the next morning they really would have lost nothing. Or a process that works for arrivals after 5:00 p.m.? But I guess they don't understand repeat business is often the easier way to get clients than to attract new ones. In addition, there is nowhere to call and talk to a person. It is a call tree where all options lead to a recording. I tried the "Contact Us" button on their website and it also went nowhere. You know, after s******* $500+ from me, I think their car rental business is a "front" for a t**** ring. I had to work through a third party just to communicate with them. Now they have my money AND they can rent the car to someone else, and heck, maybe even a third person if that doesn't work out. I will of course steer clear of them in the future and screen shot every car rental page before purchasing in the future.

I rented a car for 5 days in *************, **. The car was dirty inside and windows hard to see out of, I let the attendant know. Returned car clean, full of gas and the attendant said looks great, youll get a receipt by email. 2 days later I get a charge for $400 for external wash. I emailed them and got a standard response if no refund. Ive asked for proof/pics anything. Havent heard back for 2 weeks. Cant find a number to get an actual person on the phone. I am so frustrated and wasting so much time in this total BS. ****** learned: take pics before and after. I want this company to give back all the money they stole from me!!

I'm floored by how terrible this experience was. First of all, they advertise a "manager's special" on their website, which they say could be any car they have in stock. When I got to pick up my car, they said it would be an electric vehicle, which would not work for me since I was driving somewhere with no electric hookup. But here's the good part: the counter rep said the manager's special is ALL electric vehicles, since no one will rent them otherwise. He said that every customer is mad about it when they find out, and that management knows that, but they just keep doing it to make money, and let the counter reps deal with the fall out. So I had to pay hundreds of dollars more to get a car I could use. In addition to that, so many things were broken: - They ask you to check in online ahead of time, which includes taking photos of your license and everything, but it turns out that doesn't work. The counter rep says it hasn't worked in ages, but they still have you go through it. - The battery died on the car key fob, so the car wouldn't start. I had to buy a battery to fix it myself. - I kept getting an "oil change required" alert while driving. - The car was dirty on the outside when I picked it up (which I don't really care about, but just another thing). I can't recommend enough that you go with a different car rental company!

Picking up after hours was a nightmare! They charged me $100 for gas, after I returned the car full. And you can't get a hold of an actual person to talk to. I had to dispute the charge through my bank.

Rented from Orlando - explained that had a SunPass which was activated before leaving the parking garage. Returned to UK to find we have toll charges. Asked Thrifty for details of Toll charges they were passing on. No response. Made a formal complaint which Thrifty have not even had the courtesy to acknowledge.

Dishonest and dimissive. I agree with ************** review. I've had a similar experience. She said "My experience with Thrifty has been incredibly frustrating. They billed me for a cancelled reservation and have continued to be impossible to reach/incredibly evasive about refunding this charge." That's totally what I'm going through. Each time I contact them, and it's only through an online form and they respond via email. It's difficult to get them on the phone. They've dismissed my request for a refund after cancelling my reservation within 24 hour period and insists that they've refunded the $1000 that have not been credited back to me. It's been 2 months and I'm still waiting for my refund. Avoid this company.

BUYER BEWARE! SW airlines connected me to Thrifty on their supposed discount car rental that comes with flight purchase. I used the link to reserve a car. At the car counter, I told the clerk upon checkout of the car that I wanted to use my own car insurance which I already pay for. He definitely said Yes, but then he typed in the added $35 per day charge for Liability. I took him at his word and was foolish not to read the papers upon checkout. They print out the charges AFTER you insert your credit card, and tuck it in an envelope while telling you where the car is. Very easy! Very stupid of me to proceed. But others were waiting and it seemed normal to proceed without looking at it. Upon returning the car, when I tried to explain that the clerk had not done what I said (let me use my own insurance) a clerk at a desk marked **************** gave me a separate customer service phone number. That phone number had a menu which told me to use herz.com to complain. There, they charge a dollar to chat with an AI expert. The phone menu said 5 during Central Time business hours would allow me to talk to a person. I waited until the right time, was put on hold with hideous devils singing a horrible song, took a shower while on hold, , and finally got a person with mediocre language skills who told me no refund or adjustment; you agreed to the terms. True. And a billionaire gets richer.

Do not rent with Thrifty. Their representatives aren't transparent or upfront about additional fees that customers will be charged and are misleading on what fees are optional versus what are opt-in. In addition to this scam-like behavior, they do not have representatives you can contact via phone and only operate over email, which can take days or weeks for them to reply. There are plenty of other rental companies who offer a basic level of service you will never get from Thrifty.
