BEWARE, total scammers. Don't ignore the one star reviews here and elsewhere. My $200 prepaid rental turned into $500 because they require you to show that your car insurance has $300,000 property damage liability coverage. They also charged $15/day to activate the toll pass, a toll violations would cost $25/toll. I booked on rentalcars.com and this was not made clear. I've booked dozens of cars around the world and never had this problem, by far my worst rental car experience and honestly the most I've been scammed traveling anywhere. To top it off, the car was in poor condition.

Good afternoon, our T&C shows the liability requested to take the car on the different bookings where we appears and the same applies for the tolls since our T&C are clear about it.

This was a horrible experience on multiple levels in 2023. (1) I was over-charged - by discovercars.com and by Colusa Rent a Car in Ft. Lauderdale. I booked on discovercars and then was picked up and taken to Colusa Rent a Car. (2) The instructions on the paperwork upon arrival at the airport about where to catch the van to the rental facility lead me to call an international company, with a phone number that did not connect me. (3) I asked a random shuttle van driver, if he new where the pickup location was for me, showing him my paperwork. He said, "Yeah, that's me." But, his pick up location had no signage at the airport with their logo and my paperwork did not have the logo or name on their van either. I got in the van...bad idea. I know. The driver enroute made inappropriate remarks, "like you look nervous" and another comment about my appearance. WHAT? (4) At check in, the insurance amount they added to my credit card was something like $1500, when my insurance company has told me that I never needed to do that and they held the pending charge on my card for 2 months. I think they were making sure I wouldn't write a negative review. They advised me to prepay for tolls, that were non-refundable when there literally were no required toll roads on the way to my destination. (5) The car was beat up - the center console to view the speed was steamed up. The dashboard was dented. (6) After a short weekend in Florida, a month later they charged my card for a small amount, $15, it came up on my email, as a notification for a reservation fee. When I contacted Colusa, they said I had to send an email to request the fee be removed, but *don't* contact my credit card company about it, because then they won't be able to reverse it. I plan to post this on Discovercars.com, also. Be mindful of avoiding these companies.

Anyone encounters these thief keep reporting and write reviews! They do not deserve to be in business. I purchased my rental via priceline which would have been only 49$. I said okay most of these smaller companies usually like high coverage for their junk that their renting people. I went ahead and purchased the insurance through Priceline. When I get there they said oh priceline coverage only up to a certain amount and i will need a third party to cover the balance of coverage. No where in the details to priceline does they say anything like that. Lets include I have insurance on my own car which they claim they dont take. BS! So they said they will need to charge me 135$ for the extra coverage and a hold of 300$. I could not cancel through priceline because i already paid the 49$. Which i regret not just doing and save me money at the end. They did gave me a car that did not work good. Got on the highway to be going 50mph and its shaking. I called the operators number because the office do not have a direct num to call to a live person. She said to go return it which i did. Fast forward to when i dropped off the car and received my return receipt to only be charged i assume is a gas fee for the car i replaced! Like its my fault their car was not working and wanted me to to pay for a full tank of gas. These people are thief's do not rent from them! I promise you will regret everything about your rental and money wasted!

AVOID THIS RENTAL BY ALL MEANS!!!!I am glad you are reading this company review before booking. I made a mistake by not doing so and booked on Priceline. By far the WORST EVER car rental place. Not only they load you for excessive additional fees on top of your paid rental, SECURITY DEPOSIT, but they also give you a weed smelling car, weed paper was stuck by the handle on the passenger seat. They will charge you for EVERYTHING! If you do not have your personal insurance to the **** we are talking about 100K/300K insurance policy, they will charge you an additional fee. I felt like I was renting a Lambo, but it was just a tiny ****** NEVER AGAIN! And you, whoever reading this, DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE. And forgot to mention, it has been 30 days since my end of rental, I am still trying to get the security deposit back. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME and rent from other places.

Dear customer, we are very sorry for your experience, all of our cars are cleaned and reviewed between each rent, any kind of charge is always part of the terms and conditions showed in all of the bookings we work with.

Also your security deposit was already refunded as corresponds.

Horrible experience. I booked through Priceline, which is supposed to be all-inclusive except additional charges that are agreed upon when picking up the car. I picked the car up at *************** and returned to *****. The only additional charges that I agreed to were $10 per day toll device activation. So I was expecting a $30 fee+ tax. Colusa/CarWiz ended up charging me $100.59 which included $50 one-way fee, which was covered in the Priceline rental, $15 disinfectant fee, and believe me, the 7 year old ******* Elantra with ****** miles that reeked of Marijuan hasn't been disinfected in ages. They also charged me $20 per day in rental, which should definitely have been all-inclusive with Priceline. After several emails back and forth with Colusa/CarWiz **************** team, there was no relief, And to top it off, today I received an email from them, charging me $15.10 for tolls incurred during the rental, which I would not have minded if they had not charged $100.59 in bogus fees. By the way, I paid Priceline $102.31 up front for the rental. The rental desks are not in the areas where the other rental car companies are. When leaving ***, you have to take not 1, but 2 different shuttles to get to the rental desk. In ***** you return to a location that literally is in the red light district. Driving in we passed a 24 hour **** club that was extremely sketchy and dangerous looking. Save your time and money and avoid renting with this company or Priceline. Book direct with the big rental companies. They may appear to cost more, but when all is said in done, they are a better value and MUCH BETTER service.

STAY AWAY from COLUSA/Carwiz. All negative reviews from BBB to Yelp to ****** are 100% accurate. Car was dangerous, thought I was going to breakdown, thank God I did not. Front bumper was held on with zipties. Rental place was sketchy, off site from airport. Van to rental place was also sketchy. They also charged excessive insurance (apx. $50 per day) for a car that is absolute c*** I also booked thru Priceline and had no idea what **mpany I was getting. Looking at all the horrible reviews on line, priceline is well aware of this ** and **ntinues to work with them. If you ever book thru priceline, do yourself a favor and book the rental seperatley through a reputable **mpany who maintains their cars.

Tho whom it may concern, we have reviewed the reservation under ***************************, the reservation from the booking did not included any insurance, we have a list of accepted insurances but the client decided to contract one directly with us and we have different packages, the client took the $1000 deductible insurance and signed the rental agreement during the pick up, we do not have any notes about complaints for the car otherwise we would have changed her car to make her feel comfortable. All of our cars are checked before every rent to be in good conditions

RIP OFF! I paid for a rental with airline miles but ended up paying over $1,000 in hidden fees and terms. Stick to Turo and Sixt.

The client paid for an insurance during pick up and signed the rental agreement, unfortunatelly the extra charge was for tolls since the rent was toll by plate because the client did not contracted any toll service, and the fine was for $400, the client did a chargeback and it was recredited to the company since we have all the proof according to our T&C.

Colusa Rent-A-Car and its subsidiaries, including Carwiz, should be avoided like the plague. They specialize in ripping off customers and adding on unfair and unnecessary charges. **************** is for all intents and purposes nonexistent. Three examples which illustrate the devious and incompetent practices of these companies:1. At the ************** airport the pickup site is located a couple of miles from the airport. It took two calls to the office get the shuttle bus to pick us up.2. At the counter I was informed that if my trip passed toll booths, I would need to use the toll activation device already installed in the vehicle. I informed them that I had my EZ Pass transponder with me and did not want to pay for their activation device. I was told that I did not have a choice and charged me an additional $59.96.3. Having rented autos for years, I was surprised to learn that Colusa, in this case Carwiz, requires a minimum of $300,000 in liability insurance.I was informed that my credit card and even my personal liability insurance were insufficient to cover so I was charged another $83.96.In all I was charged an additional $133.92 over my "low price" rental.Saving the best for last, the most annoying and frustrating part of this experience is that I booked through Priceline. When I called to complain and frankly demand a refund for the extra charges, I was told by several layers of management that Priceline was not responsible for the operations of the company and their unscrupulous practices. Priceline has a responsibility to vet companies and businesses that they recommend and put on their website. For the record, I will no longer by using Priceline.Rosebush

Horrible service!! A dirty, stinky van picked us up from the airport and delivered us to an alley way full of cars that made it fell like we were in a third world country!! My wife and kids were scared to wait outside for fear of the environment surrounding them, and inside wasn’t much better! I do not speak Spanish, so the language barrier made it very difficult to understand what was being done at the rental counter. We were on time for our rental, but still had to wait 30 minutes for them to wash our car and bring it from wherever they had it because it wasn’t in their tiny little garage. Upon inspection of the vehicle, we had to just above force them to take pictures because there was a few paint nicks of our Dodge Charger. We were forced to purchase their insurance coverage because they said they had to have a copy of our insurance policy. So we had to purchase their insurance policy of which I only got the basic coverage of $34.99 per day. I also opted to purchase their SunPass for the tolls in Florida because everybody knows just about every road in Florida has a toll. I didn’t receive any paperwork when we finished checking in and all I ever did was sign a little signature pad on the desk as the attendant transposed my signature onto the rental agreement on his keyboard, that of which I never saw…. until 5 days laters, after returning the car! Then the email I got said that I declined the SunPass option, when I CLEARLY stated I wanted that coverage! So they billed my card on file for over $600 in tolls and “charges”!!! If I had received a contract at check in, then I would have been able to double check my coverages!! I know this was done to blatantly scam me!! We had to return our car during closing hours and they gave us no option for transportation after hours back to the airport. This place is just a fly by night scam company looking to scam you for money any way they can!!! DO NOT RENT FROM COLUSA!!!
