We had a wonderful experience with ****. Our daughter spent a year abroad in ******* and it was one of the most memorable experiences in her life. There were a few hiccups on my daughters part and the **** team was fabulous with their response and assistance. We had some issues with her medically and they were competent and supportive. Would recommend them 100%. Thank you for everything!

Before you select this company, please contact me first. B-r-a-u-b-e-79 at gmail (delete the spaces, system wouldn't let me put it) I am very passionate about making sure someone doesn't make the same mistake we did. I will share our experience and why a 1 star rating is given. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. Your child is depending on you to do so.

Beware of this agency! They do not care about anything but the money they can get for the students. The Area Coordinator for ********* discriminates against "***** loving former jarheads" and treats the host families and workers like they are beneath her. I worked as an AR and they are refusing to pay me for 2 months of the work that I completed. The Southern Region of this agency is a bait and switch company that exists solely to commit extortion of the students and families, not to mention how they treat their employees.

What an awful experience. I have hosted several exchange students in the past with other organizations with no issues. However, ASSE, is not what I thought they would be. Our local representative was rude and untrained. The child was a pleasure to have but she was atypical teenager that could be *****. Well, her mood swings were too the point where the tension in the home was difficult. And instead of the area representative discussing alternatives or solutions she just placed her to another home and was done with no warning or conversation. And when I've reached out to higher up representatives I got nothing but radio silence. Please use another program because I can't say anything good about this one. - Host family in ****

My experience somewhat mirrors *******'s experience below. Great student(s), disorganized, virtue signaling, and despicable agency. I accepted two students per their policies as I am the sole adult in the home. One arrived one week early, necessitating the cancelation of an out-of-state business trip and scrambling to get ready for this student. The agency seemed unaware of the arrival time of the second student. Forms and agreements were late. When I asked how I would be reimbursed for basic expenses, I was told there would be no reimbursement of any amount. I estimated that the cost of housing, educating, and feeding the two students for nine months would be $9,000. The agency did not dispute this estimate but refused to discuss any reimbursement. They are currently in the process of moving both students to another home which may involve changing schools. The situation is heartbreaking and I am incensed at the cold-hearted nature of this organization and the cavalier manner they treat other people's children and those who offer to care for them in this country.

Great experience with the student. Terrible experience with ASSE and our local and regional ********* were a rehoming family that stepped up when the first home was approved inappropriately and was no place for any student to live - including slave labor conditions. The regional rep has placed this student with a friend which represented huge conflict of interest and put our student in ***** way. After we stepped up ASSE did nothing to get a new rep, orient us or be responsive to us even though we were pinch hitting unexpectedly. Do yourself a favor - use another agency. Their check the box, lack of empathy approach is good for on one involved.

Weve hosted 4 times with this organization and had great experiences with the support, the activities they plan, and the kids. Of course, these are teens and they all have their typical teenage moments. Our Area Representative was always there to give advice if needed and checked in regularly. I appreciate the community this group helps create with the exchange participants and will continue hosting with them in the future.

I hosted a student through ASSE back in 2011. We had a good experience. No issues. We LOVED our exchange student, *****. We still keep in touch with her. She came to my wedding and my sister's wedding. It is truly a special experience to host an exchange student. It is valuable tool to form connections with other countries.

We decided to host a student for the first time this year. I couldn't have loved the process more. Once we were vetted we were provided a list of students that wanted to come to America. It had their own personal letters, as well as their interests and ambitions. This allowed us to pick the perfect match for us. As we have 3 kids, our new Son also had 3 younger siblings. His ambitions lined up with our own. He has truly been a perfect addition to our family. He brings home straight As, goes to school events, just joined the tennis team, goes on all mini trips with the family, and the list goes on and on in a positive way. He will truly be missed when he goes home in June, but we feel connected to him and his family and will be visiting them all soon. This process is so much better than having a kid dropped on you which you know nothing about. To be able to connect with the student, and then chat with them for 6 months before they even fly over was amazing. Everyone was running and hugging at the airport. We have Learned so much from his culture and he from ours. I truly think that families can learn so much from this experience.

I have has amazing experiences with ASSE. We have hosted for many years. You have to remember kids will be kids and you do need to parent them. That is our responsibility as a host family. We also felt supported and have had a great experience!
