- Advertising Review:
On December 14, 2021, Better Business Bureau contacted Given Us concerning an advertising claim found on their website.
Specifically, Given Us is advertising claims without providing any substantiation. On Given Us website, they state "The crew here at GivenUs is and always will be dedicated to giving you all we can to bring you the best the world wide web has” and “We scour the web, research, work with our contacts and partners to get those leads and connections that give us the ability to have true and valuable insights that do not always show up on the surface. This type of intel as you know, is true journalism in the digital era, and obviously with trillions of web pages and searches to scour through these days it is very often so easy to mistake nonsense and fake or totally biased well written, or even horribly written content as truth…; when in fact, it is far from reality".
According to the Code of Advertising, Expressions of opinion or personal evaluation of the intangible qualities of a product or service are likely to be considered puffery. Such claims are not subject to the test of truth and accuracy and would not need substantiation.
BBB has received several scam reports regarding Given Us where consumers claim they are being contacted through email and offered opportunities to receive a college scholarship. Once subscribed, consumers have stated the emails they receive from Given Us have poor grammar, misspelled words, and do not seem professional. In the emails there is a report link to subscribe to Given Us, though it appears to be a fake service.
Despite written requests, as of February 10, 2022, Given Us has failed to substantiate or modify its advertisement. For additional information on the Code of Advertising, please visit https://www.givenus.com.
