Avalara over-promisED and under-deliveVS!The sales person made it sound like onboarding was easy-************ would handle everything but that's just not the case. They provided the most basic support needed to onboard their software (quite literally a spreadsheet of steps to take) and when things went wrong they said the issue was "was part of YOUR set-up." In other words, it was our fault but inevitably required a software engineer to resolve. The only training we received was on how to use their tax research database but they provided that so early in the process that by time we went live I couldn't recall how to use it. I requested new training but never got it. They won't provide you with any tax advice. They'll refer you to the tax research database. Someone wrote something to the effect "they change account managers like gloves" and that's true in our case. And our case managerS have been useless in most situations & either referred me to the tax research database or instructed me to open a "case."And you better understand the tax requirements in any SST states you begin reporting in because they're not going to provide you with any help. And understand that they will try to get you to sign up because THEY get a discount for every state they file an SST return. I'll give you an example, in one particular SST state once we started filing tax returns we found out we needed to start filing a flat-rate "delivery" tax return as well - a separate tax return Avalara did not tell us about but was happy to begin filing for us (for an additional fee). If you employee Avalara for tax reporting just understand that all they want to do is tap into your accounting system and consolidate your numbers so they can report your returns. Do NOT expect them to provide you any level of support other than the very basic needed and do NOT count on them to be tax experts - they are not tax exports, they are tax software experts capable of automating returns.Avalara Inc

The worst customer service! They change account managers like gloves. Noone knows what is happening with the account, impossible to get in touch with anyone in customer service. We have a case open for a month! Still not resolved! Frustrating! Waste of time and money!Avalara Inc

I signed up for the business license service. It was advertised as less than **** days. It's now being estimated that it will take almost 20 days (possibly more)! Because of this, I will likely have to file for the licenses myself, and will need to know the status of each license. However, they have REALLY terrible customer service: I've called close to 15 times (as well as sent chat messages and emails) and they only answered once (it was their sales ***** of course). They ended up giving me the same number I'd been calling before (and getting no response even though I left messages). The cost of the services is $499. I uploaded my information 11 days ago and have no idea as to the progress of each license. This is an issue because I will now have to apply for some of them on my own, due to critical business time constraints, and I have no idea which ones they many have already submitted on my behalf (if any). Stay away from this service. Even if you get a refund, you will have already wasted one of your most valuable resources as a business...time.Avalara Inc

Save yourself money and aggravation! The onboarding was a nightmare and never setup correctly. Support is a joke, 1st contact is clueless on basics and will escalate.which means more waiting. Next level is slightly better but will need to escalate to a developer..more waiting. **************** was down right rude. There are other solutions out there, please do your research!Avalara Inc

I was going through ************* on-boarding and Avalara offer was served up. The offer started that based on my answers there are 6 certifications that I will need to file and it costs $99. Figured that $16 per certification might be worth it. Once I purchased the offer, it said that I have only 1 certification and it is annual taxes, which is not really a certification and my registered agent will do it, which I already paid for separately. To summarize, this business misrepresent offers, scams people out of their money and will not refund the money.Avalara Inc

They are terrible. For $399 I ordered my ** seller's license from them to save me the hassle of the red tape. 4 weeks later, all they have done is told me to communicate with the state by answering emails that have never arrived, redirected me to other phone numbers and customer service chats, put me on hold, send me to voicemail. They were recommended through Legal Zoom. Do not give these people any money.Avalara Inc

We have been with Avalara for a year. The process has been terrible. The support is the worst I have ever experienced. Even when we paid for a support package, the support was terrible. Anytime there was an issue, I was told to open a support case. Most times, they would just respond with an article that I needed to read, so I could fix the issue myself. The most recent issue has been with a specific jurisdiction filing. The jurisdiction has stated that Avalara does not handle this particular issue correctly, and this resulted in my business incurring late penalties. I had worked with Avalara directly when setting up this specific return for this jurisdiction. I followed and approved the return as directed by Avalara. I shared all this with my account rep and in several support cases. My account rep never responded to me. The support cases just kept being closed, and I was told to handle the issue with the jurisdiction. It has been very frustrating. I was sent another article to read, and I told them the article does not align with what the jurisdiction states are the correct procedures. Again, I was told to just work with the jurisdiction, and the case was closed.Avalara Inc

I was an Avalara user for 3 years, and when it worked, it was great. Didn't think about sales tax at all. However, if anything need to be changed or there was an issue it became a part time job to try and communicate and resolve. All communication with the company is done thru a ticket system that leaves you feeling helpless and ignored. In order to get a resolution everything needed to be phrased and submitted perfectly, if you're not familiar with their process this is nearly impossible. After working with them for weeks to correct a mistake they made and getting no updates or communication back we finally decided to terminate our relationship.Avalara Inc

Very disappointed with this company.I paid them $975 for a service to help with licensing, and they've only made the process much more difficult and drawn out. The service they were selling is expediting, which I paid for over 3 months ago. They've dropped the ball on numerous items, and I still haven't had my service completed.Avalara Inc

BEWARE!!!!! DO NOT every sign up with Avalara. The company is unable to conduct business and this is a SCAM business. I have been lied to repeatedly, frustrated beyond belief for months now. I signed on w/avalara to research and provide licensing for my new business. They took my money and then some, and are still trying to charge my credit card. IT IS A SCAM. I was cancelled out of nowhere via email because my account manger was unable to tell me what was completed on my behalf and then I was hung up on. I received an email later stating my account was closed w/out my consent or my request to do so and I now I am being charged for recurring fees of $450.00 per month, which I DID NOT SIGN UP FOR. Wow, more misleading and erronieous information by Avalara. I warn anyone who would like to conduct business with them to read their reviews, most of which are terrible. I sure wish that I had taken the time to do so. Avalara's response is outrageous. The only aggressive behavior was by Avalara, as I was hung up on repeatedly because Avalara could not and would not tell me where I was in the process of my filings (remember for $450.00 and then asked for another $95.00 in which I have not been reimbursed and was in fact charged-I had to contact my credit card company to resolve-more of my time wasted). I normally would not take the time to contact the BBB but I have wasted so much of my time calling, emailing and when Avalara tried to charge my credit card a recurring $450.00 a month, I felt I needed to warn others.
