As outstanding as the curriculum and reputation of DigiPen Institute of Technology is, the housing experience my son went through was disgusting. From the apartment itself to the way the ****************** handled the situation he was put into. DigiPen sublets a few apartments from various complexes close to campus. My son was put into a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment with 3 others. Day 1 my son reached out to Housing and let them know of the stench and that his allergies flared. 3 weeks later findings of black mold and water damage in the bathroom. 2 more weeks go by inhaling black mold. They are displaced for a week while the bathroom is being repaired. One significant setback, no bathroom sink or vanity available to install. A total of TWELVE weeks went by before this repair was complete with a used bathroom sink and vanity. DigiPen Housing just chalk this all up to an inconvenience. The ****************** told them they could wash their hands and brush their teeth in their kitchen sink, use an empty apartments bathroom OR use the complexs workout facility in lieu of the missing bathroom sink. The cost to stay in this apartment was $1,048.75 per month PER student and the school wouldnt reimburse them for ANYTHING. DigiPen didnt hold up their end of the contract that stated the students were renting a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom because they didnt have a full service bathroom for months yet they wouldnt adjust the rent. When my son didnt want to stay in that apartment any longer, due to his health they charged him two months rent to move out.The students health was put in jeopardy, they were uprooted, without a bathroom sink for months, and they stunk like their apartment due to the mold - their first experience of college completely tarnished. A huge disappointment and waste of money and the customer service was unapologetic, unreasonable and condescending. These students were severely taken advantage of.
