- Advertising Review:
Better Business Bureau has received reports from consumers alleging Discount World LLC calls consumers claiming to save them 50% off their utility bills if the consumer pays through their company. Consumers state after paying them 50%, Discount World LLC fails to pay the utility company, leaving the consumer owing their utility company their payment plus late and/or disconnection fees for non-payment. When consumer's attempt to collect a refund from Discount World LLC, their requests are ignored.
On January 7, 2022, BBB contacted Discount World LLC concerning advertising claims found on its website, https://www.discountworldus.com/. Specifically, Discount World LLC claims, "you can save 50% off on your utility bills and others by just signing up with our company"; "We are working in almost every state and city in the USA. We are not working with one company as we are retailers for different companies, so we have a wide diversity approximately with all the USA companies including T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Comcast, Xfinity, PG&E, PSE, Comed, Toyota Financial Services, Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of America, Chase Bank, Provident Funding and so on", as well as "2000 + Satisfied Customers".
BBB's Code of Advertising states, "Advertisements should be truthful, sincere offers to sell. Advertisers have a responsibility to have substantiation for all claims made and should be able to provide that substantiation upon request. All advertising that may mislead or deceive consumers should be avoided".
When using name brands or customer reviews as an endorsement, companies should have a written agreement with the company to use their trademarks and customers to use their statements. Endorsements are likely to mislead if it is not genuine and does not actually represent the current opinion of the endorser; Association with each business and consumer was requested from Discount World LLC.
Despite written requests, as of January 21, 2022, Discount World LLC has failed to respond.
