I filed a complaint against William s. Dodson, Jr., with the ******** ********** ** ****** *********** last March of 2023 after Dr. Dodson gave me a root canal on the wrong tooth Monday, January 23, 2023. It took them approximately 16 months to find Dr. Dodson guilty of every allegation against him. Before the Virginia Board of Dentistry, there was a four page consent order against Dr. Dodson finalized on July 12, 2024, affecting Dr. Dodson's license to practice dentistry in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Findings of Fact and Conclusion of Law
    1. ******* ** ****** **., D.M.D. was issued License Number 0401-410127 to practise dentistry on August 10, 1999, which is scheduled to expire on September 30, 2024.
2.Dr. Dodson violated Virginia Code subsection 54.1-2706(5) and (9) and 18 VAC 60-21-90 (BX7) of the Regulations Governing the Practise of Dentistry in that, on January 23, 2023, Patient A presented to have a root canal on tooth #14 and #19. By his own admission, Dr. Dodson performed a root canal on tooth #18 rather than the intended tooth #19. Additionally, although he had informed Patient A he performed the root canal on the incorrect tooth on the day of treatment, he failed to document the error in Patient's A treatment record until January 25, 2023, and failed to document the discussion he had with Patient A about the error until January 31, 2023.
    3. By letter dated May 13, 2024, to the board, dr. dodson stated a clamp was placed on the wrong tooth #18 instead of #19. When access revealed a vital pulp instead of existing endodontic treatment, the mistake was realized and could not be reversed. He stated that Patient a was immediately informed of the mistake and was offered to receive all treatment and any further treatment at no charge.
    ORDER
    1. Dr. Dodson is accessed a Monetary Penalty of $********
    2. Within six months from date of entry of this Order, Dr. Dodson shall provide written proof, satisfactory to the Board, of successful completion .....
