    Hello,

    We cut the hole as big as possible without cutting into the joists holding up the flooring (which would be against building code to cut a section out of the deck joist) and without causing a hazard for small children to get their foot caught. We can only cut the hole as big as the span between the deck joists. 

    We had a contract to alter the existing hole around the tree that goes through the deck to make the hole larger and to provide/install additional joists and framing in the area around the hole to properly support the floor. We did the work as stated on the contract. It does not state in the contract to remove any debris or clean up. 

    The homeowner never specified how big to make the hole around the tree. I told him we can only make the hole around the tree as big as the span between the deck joists. He wanted us to cut a section out of the deck joist on the right of the tree, like he did to the joist left of the tree. I told him we cannot cut a section out of the joist. 

    The homeowner cut a 1' to 2' section out of his deck joist on the left side of the tree which caused the flooring to be unsupported and sage causing a safety hazard. 

    We completed the work as stated on the contract. After work was complete the homeowner complained that we neglected to reinstall some screws so I told him we would come back that day to install the screws. He was very unreasonable and refuse to let us on the property to take care of any issues he had.

    He is refusing to pay the remaining balance due as stated on the signed contract. We are contacting a lawyer and filing a mechanics lien on the property for non-payment for completion of contracted work.
