I searched for a financial planner to help me make a road map of how to use my traditional 401K, ***************, rollover **** **** 401K, pensions, and then eventually social security. I had met with **** in the past and listened to him on the radio & felt he may be able to help. I talked to him again over the phone and told him I did not need him to manage my money, and that I just needed a step by step plan of how to use my retirement funds. He told me this would be possible for him to do. I had already met with another financial planner that gave me a step by step plan (20+ pages) with a **** report for free, but I wasn't sure about about a LIRP in my situation. **** assured me that he could make me a solid plan. We met in a library, because there was some problem with the office building they had been using and I paid $700 upfront which was required. He plugged my numbers into his algorithm and told me I would be fine retiring. Yes, I already knew this. Work retirement algorithms that are free give the same information that his algorithm gave. I was upset and he told me he would get me a step by step plan for retirement. I just wanted to know what funds to take from first up until social security, etc. I had figured I had just wasted $700 and was upset with myself for not being wise. I called his office twice to make sure he was making me a road map and they said he would. 6 weeks later, I received an email with maybe 2 paragraphs saying something like, use your pension and ************'s first and then start using your 401K. Financial planners may not like people like me who only want to get advice and not let them make a % off of my retirement by managing it. I would not be complaining if I had not talked to **** on the phone and told him exactly what I wanted and he assured me he could do this. The **** report was very very detailed of amounts to take from each account and when. I expected after our discussion that paying him $700, he could do the same without a LIRP.
