I had my vehicle towed to their shop solely for a diagnostic service, I made it clear that I was calling around for other quotes and did not authorize any repairs at that time. I never gave verbal authorization for the work to begin until 11:30am, which later he claimed he started before when my grandpa in law came to inquire about the itemized estimate around 10am. When I questioned this, the mechanic claimed they had already started working on the vehicle before receiving my permission. I pointed out the issue, saying, So you started work without my permission? I never agreed to that. What if I only wanted the diagnostic? ******* became defensive and, most importantly, confirmed the overcharge by saying, Yes, maam, this is how we make money. Either you pay your bill or leave your car here. I asked, So youre admitting to overcharging me? and he followed up by saying, All mechanics around here do it. Ask ****** what they charge. I later confirmed that no work began on my car until around noon, as they were waiting for a part that was ordered the previous day without my consent that I was even going to go through with the service. This completely contradicts their justification for charging labor hours from earlier in the day.The situation escalated when the mechanic stood up, became hostile, and demanded immediate payment. When I asked where to pay, he pulled an unplugged Square chip reader from his pocket and said, Here. I asked, Are you going to plug it in? The entire interaction was aggressive, intimidating, and coercive. While I was understandably upset, and may have expressed frustration, *******, however, was instantly defensive, unwilling to compromise, and made no effort to resolve the matter professionally.I have phone call records and a witness. I believe Barrett's Automotive & Motorsports is engaging in unethical and deceptive practices and respectfully request that the Better Business Bureau investigate this and take appropriate action.
