Important information

  • Advertising Review:

BBB promotes truth in advertising by contacting advertisers whose claims conflict with the BBB Code of Advertising.   These claims may come to our attention from our internal review of advertising, consumer complaints, and competitor challenges.  BBB asks advertisers to prove their claims, change ads to make offers more clear to consumers, and remove misleading or deceptive statements.

On December 29, 2022, BBB contacted Elite Disinfect Texas regarding advertised claimed results, certifications, and guarantees including:

"Covering all of Texas using EPA registered coronavirus disinfectant and natural disinfectant to destroy Covid-19, bacteria, viruses living on objects."

"Forensic Cleaning & Virus Disinfection with 90 day Antimicrobial Surface coating for Covid-19 protection."

"Cleaning is also a necessary first step toward disinfecting in most cases.  Cleaning has been shown to reduce up to 98% of bacteria and 93% of viruses from surfaces in EPA tests.  Cleaning also removes dust, molds, irritants and allergens that can trigger asthma."

"At Elite Disinfecting, your safety is our top priority.  We use hospital grade, water soluble solution that is non-toxic, eco-friendly, CDC approved and EPA certified.  Our products have been rigorously tested and scientifically proven to disinfect 99.999% of viruses, odor-causing bacteria, mold, allergens and odors, including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19."

    "Kills disease causing viruses"

    "MFS Certified"

"Complete safety guarantee" and "Certified, Hospital-grade chemicals:  We use the best quality hospital-grade chemicals that are licensed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for use."

BBB Code of Advertising states claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy, or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data.

BBB Code of Advertising also states the primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser.  Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast.  Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB.

BBB Code of Advertising also states when using the term "warranty" or "guarantee" in product advertising, the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously include a statement that the complete details of the warranty can be seen prior to sale at the advertiser's location, viewed on the advertiser's website or, in the case of mail or telephone order sales, made available free on written request.

BBB requested Elite Disinfect Texas to substantiate the claims or discontinue the advertisements.

As of January 6, 2023, Elite Disinfect Texas discontinued its website.

On December 4, 2024, BBB contacted Elite Disinfect Texas regarding claims on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/elitedisinfecttexas from posts advertising:

“At Elite Disinfecting, we use a hospital grade, water soluble solution that is non-toxic, eco-friendly, CDC approved, and EPA certified.  Our products have been rigorously tested and scientifically proven to disinfect 99.99% of viruses, odor-causing bacteria, mold, allergens including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Our technician is certified to perform these services.”

A post from July 13, 2022, referring to Monkeypox advertised “Elite Disinfecting can help prevent the spread of these viruses… Call us today and get a free quote.”

The intro to their Facebook page advertises “solution that is non-toxic, eco-friendly, CDC approved, and EPA certified.”

BBB Code of Advertising states advertisers should not make broad, unqualified general environmental benefit claims like “green” or “eco-friendly.” Advertisers must qualify general claims with specific environmental benefits.  Advertisers must possess competent and reliable evidence (often scientific evidence) to support all environmental benefit claims.  Qualifications for any claim must be clear, conspicuous, and understandable.

BBB Code of Advertising also states that non-toxic claims likely convey that a product, package, or service is non-toxic both for humans and for the environment generally.  Thus, advertisers must either possess competent and reliable scientific evidence that this is the case or clearly and conspicuously qualify the claim to avoid confusion.

BBB requested Elite Disinfect Texas to substantiate the advertised claims by providing BBB competent and reliable scientific evidence regarding the claims and additionally provide substantiation of the approved and certified disinfectants from the respective agencies or discontinue the advertising.

As of January 2, 2025, Elite Disinfect Texas failed to respond to BBB’s requests for substantiation.
