McKays Used Books is not a business I will patron again for multiple reasons. I participated in the Ultimate McKays road trip. It was a completely chaotic disaster they were dismally unprepared for, but to me as a stay home mom, worth it. I got the $800 in trade credit. After the event I began to notice McKays significantly jacking their prices up. Items of interest to me started to be about the same price or more as buying the item new. (Examples...The "******" game is in the check out isle at McKays for $24.95, but you can currently purchase it new on ****** for $9.99. The book "*** ***** *********" is at McKays for $14.00 and I got it on *********** for $5.39 as a hardback in excellent condition. "*** ***** ****" book is at McKays for $13.00 and I ordered it on *********** for $5.79, again as a hardback in excellent condition. Etc...) October 2nd my vehicle was broken into. My windows were smashed out and a bag that was hidden under my backseat was taken. I immediately called the police, my insurance, and McKays all while still standing beside my car. I had a receipt from McKays from the previous day, 10/01/24, stating my trade credit issued to me after that transaction was $705.85. The manager that I spoke to told me that under the circumstance and with all the information I had given him, he had no problem reissuing my credit to me and leaving it up front for me to pick up. He stated he had everything he needed to access the barcode from my credit and take care of it. However, he called me back to apologize and stated that he did not see that going the way that it did. He said upper management said they would not reissue my credit. I have gone by in person. The GM refused a copy of my police report, my window replacement receipt, and my McKays receipt. My 2 phone calls and 3 e-mails to corporate have been blatantly ignored. I am deeply disappointed in McKays, the way they do business, and the way they treat their customers.
