In August, my dad, who is a senior citizen, rented a climate controlled storage unit at Midgard storage to store some of his antique furniture, books, bed and other items while we are building him a new place to live. My Dad discovered that there were rats in the storage units about 2 to 3 weeks ago. At that time, the management came and took some pictures and told us that there was a $500 insurance policy to help cover the damages One of our couches was completely destroyed with rat poop and pee. They said that they were going to get the rats taken care of, but we had the choice of whether or not we wanted to leave our stuff there. We had to wait about two weeks before we had some men to help us move our dad‘s furniture, and when we went by there to check the unit today, we saw live rats walking across the beams at the top of the unit and we could hear multiple rats in the unit next to his. The management team was not concerned, and basically told us we could make our decision about whether or not to leave our stuff in the unit or not. They would not give us cleaning supplies to clean the poop and pee off of his stuff. We had to pay to rent a U-haul and pay to start a new contract with another storage rental company. They were not willing to give us phone numbers or contact information for owners or district managers to help us get some answers regarding the damage to all of our possessions. We certainly do not want other consumers to use a business and risk their property being ruined with a rat infestation and disinterested management team. I asked why we were not contacted when they discovered the rat problem, and I was not given an answer. I don’t understand why a business would not want to contact the tenants to ensure a limited amount of damage to their property due to the pest problem. This is a major health concern as well.
