My family and I had a deeply unpleasant experience at the Animal Rescue on Western Ave Pittsburgh PA *****. Our situation became especially distressing when they denied our adoption request on October 12, 2024. The day prior to our visit I happened to be near their ******** location. It happened to be free adoption day and thought Id go in and see what may be. I approached the administration to check if my missing puppy had miraculously shown up. I provided them with a picture because when I initially filed a missing puppy report in June on the (Rescues Website) I hadnt been able to upload a picture of him, a detailed description was wrote of his features. After confirming they had not seen him, I was guided to the front entrance to fill out paperwork for possibly adopting a dog. However, another staff member abruptly denied my request, citing a policy that prevents adoption within 60 days of filing a missing animal report. This being a misunderstanding I kindly explained that I had not filed a new report but was merely following up on one I filed months ago. Despite this, the staff member was rude and refused to proceed without even considering of what I was simply saying. So the next day my family and I go to the ********* location. Outside the front entrance we were greeted by two beautiful people sitting at a desk. They had paperwork for filling out along with pictures and descriptions of the dogs who were available for potential adoption. So they invited us inside and my dad who was with me and my two children began to fill out the necessary paperwork. Sudden and abruptly, the employee from the day before was now interrupting in a condescending tone, citing a policy that prevents adoption within 60 days of filing a missing animal report. Again, I kindly suggested thats not true but not to worry because Im not the one filling out the paperwork, my dad is. Hes here looking for a dog. She made us leave and may have cost a dog its life that she loves.

Adopted a dog from them in 2021, I very quickly identified his very intense aggression towards other animals and men of which they did not in form me of. When I seeked help from the after he killed my cat and bit another dog I was told to stop calling and was harassing them. I began working with a trainer and behaviorist that wanted to know as much information on his background while in the shelters care - they refused to give me any behavior notes and stated I would need to go through the courts because at the time I requested I stated I needed it for legal reasons, again they adopted out a highly aggressive dog to me that bite another, and all his records became locked down. I could not get any records on a dog I adopted from them that was legally now my property that was meant to help him get the best training possible to not only improve his quality of life but also keep him in a home and not back in the shelter or euthanized. I had to proceed with the behavioralist on training without any helpful documentation of his behavior history. Also they did not tell me, I had to find out after adopting him through his medical records, he was attacked and bitten in the face by another dog while in their care. After months of exhausting all training methods and options, medications, desensitization, strict exercise and routine regimes; it sadly was not enough. His aggression toward other animals and people became too big a liability and he did not have a good quality of life living in that way. I realized it wouldve been negligent of me to force him to keep living a life he couldnt be happy with or even be relaxed in the safety of his own home. He and I bonded very very closely in his time with me, it devastated and broke my heart but I knew I had to humanely euthanize him. HAR treats their animals as inventory to be bought for profit - they would not help me with an adoption of their dog when I cried and begged them. They were negligent and it was dangerous
