Terrible service. My heat went out during a cold ****** I called ****, and they came the same day. The tech assessed my furnace and diagnosed a broken motor. The tech proceeded to use fear based tactics to talk me into either replacing every part, or the entire furnace, which is only 10 years old. He was nice, but his approach felt off. He was quoting me 8k-10k for a new system. I nearly fell for it because it was freezing and I didnt have heat. I ended up calling another service provider who replaced the broken part (not the motor), and it only cost me $400. Wahls approach is criminal. They use the term family business to cover up their scam.Wahl Family Heating, Cooling & Plumbing

Hi ******,Were truly sorry to hear that you were unhappy with your experience. That said, we feel your review leaves out key context and presents an inaccurate and unfair portrayal of the service we provided. When you contacted us during a cold weather emergency, our technician responded within *2 hours*something we take pride in. After thoroughly inspecting your furnace, we diagnosed a failing inducer motor as the *immediate* issue. Additionally, we noted other components**such as the igniter and flame sensoras potential *future* issues** that may fail within the next 612 months due to regular wear and tear, especially in systems that havent had consistent maintenance, as appeared to be the case here. These are not uncommon findings for equipment of this age.We also observed rust forming on the heat exchanger, which may indicate a larger problem down the road, and we felt it was important to bring that to your attention as well. Our goal in providing all of this information was **not to pressure you**, but to help you make an informed decisionwhether that meant a repair now or preparing for future maintenance or replacement. Replacement options were discussed only because the furnace is out of warranty and your AC unit uses R410A refrigerant, which the government has phased out. We expect industry-wide shortages and delays this summer, and were advising our customers accordingly so they can plan ahead. When you expressed hesitation, we completely understood. Although you had signed a contract and waived your right to cancel, we chose to waive the 25% cancellation feeno questions askedand simply asked that you let us know how youd like to proceed. You never followed up with us, and instead canceled your check and posted this ********** mentioned another company performed a repair for $400, but we dont know what part was replaced, whether it matched our diagnosis, or if OEM parts were used. Its certainly possible the inducer motor was working intermittently, or that our technician misread the symptoms. If thats the case, we sincerely apologize. If you had contacted us with concerns, we would have gladly returned **at no charge** to review our findings and ensure everything was clearly explained. That offer still stands.Calling our family-run business criminal and a scam is deeply hurtfulespecially given the professionalism, flexibility, and respect we showed throughout. We didnt push back on your change of heart, didnt enforce the contract you signed, and provided a wide range of options to helpnot pressureyou. We understand that furnace issues can be stressful, especially during extreme weather, and we regret if our communication wasnt as clear as it could have been. But we also believe our actions showed a sincere effort to do right by you.We wish you the best moving forward, and were always here should you ever need support in the future. Called **** because I didn't have hot water and noticed the hot water tank pilot light was out and wouldn't reignite. I was told on the phone a technician would be out with a "fully loaded truck" and that they would have me with hot water by the end of the day. This was Friday afternoon, so I felt lucky to have called ****.Technician came out, timely, and was polite. He told me that the water heater needed two parts, he detected a gas leak in the line leading to my dryer at the shutoff valve and had to turn it off and performed a free, full safety check of my boiler furnace. Eyeballing the furnace and serial number he told me it was old, outdated, inefficient and probably due to be replaced and that a valve (that another heating and cooling expert turned off) was leaving the furnace at risk for a massive explosion. He had solutions. Replace the furnace with a combination furnace and hot water tank in one ($23,000), a hot water tank, installed with expansion tank (to avoid an explosion), new, updated gas line to the hot water tank ($4100) or a tankless water heater ($6700). All packages included the repair of the gas leak. He couldn't repair the gas line unless I purchased something that day. He couldn't sell or install a regular hot water heater without all the "safety upgrades" because they are master plumbers and at risk for losing their *********** hours later he left. I had no hot water I had a gas line that was not repaired and a bunch of paperwork with pricing for things I didn't ask for. I called a different plumbing company that same evening. They came to my house the following Monday and installed the exact same water tank with an expansion tank for less than half the price **** quoted, without all the unnecessary safety upgrades that were perfectly safe and in working order to begin with. The gas leak was a connection that needed to be tightened.**** Plumbing is scamming /scaring people into buying unnecessary upgrades. Terrible business practice.Wahl Family Heating, Cooling & Plumbing

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. We understand that not having hot water is frustrating and can be stressful. Our goal is to help our customers to feel supported during these situations and we apologize that we didnt do a better job of that. Were sure that you werent pleased to find out that on top of needing to repair or replace your water heater you also had a gas leak and an aging boiler system. Thats a lot to take in at the same time! From what you shared, and from the paperwork created by the technician from the visit, it sounds as if ************** did a thorough evaluation on the complete system and provided the diagnostics included in our flat trip/diagnostic fee. We understand that it can be frustrating to wait for parts to become available, especially without hot water. While we do our best to keep our trucks fully stocked its unfortunately not possible for us to carry all of the parts needed for every make and model of water heater. Especially in this case because thermopiles and igniter assemblies arent among the most commonly failed water heater parts.Due to the age of the water heater, the cost of the repairs, and the availability of the parts it sounds as though ************** did the right thing in suggesting that you consider replacing your water heater. We find that a lot of our customers who have boilers enjoy the benefits of combining their heat and domestic hot water in home energy efficient combi boiler. Being that your boiler is over 20-years old it would make sense that ************** made you aware of the benefits of replacing both appliances with one unit that does both. The complimentary inspection of the boiler was a way for ************** to help you to know what type of issues you might expect to see with the heating system over the next 6 to 12 months. We believe in providing our customers all of the information so that they can make the decision that works best for them.As far as were aware the culprit for the tragedy that occurred in ********* has yet to be identified. Our goal is never to frighten our customers but our policy is to treat any potential fire or explosion hazards seriously as a precaution. Upon review we see that ************** did follow our process for identifying/confirming, and documenting the gas leak. We can see from his list of repair options that he did provide a basic repair option for as low as $282 to repair the gas leak at the dryer. That basic repair option was listed in option A.Immediate, along with the basic water heater repair pricing. (This was his last option above the total of all options on immediate.)Plumbing code does require water heaters to be installed with expansion tanks to prevent the danger of thermal expansion. This is not a scare tactic but in fact a requirement for the safe use and operation of a water heater and something that would be flagged during a county health department inspection. We cant speak for other companies but we can say that our company is committed to installing our products and services to state and local building codes or better. Our commitment to installing water heaters, boilers, and HVAC equipment properly is in writing as part of our done right guarantee which states that well be responsible for the correctness of our work for the lifetime of our installation. If its not, we make it right, at no charge to our customers. That guarantee along with our complete repair/replace warranty is included in all of our system installations at no extra charge to our customers. Because we include everything required for the safety and proper function of heating/cooling, and water heating equipment, the repair and new system installation pricing you listed does accurately reflect the quotes that we provided which we did offer with no and low interest financing. We appreciate your right to choose the repair/replacement options that work best for you even when that choice isnt to work with our company. We hope that in hindsight you can appreciate the value of some or all other information that ************** provided. If youd like to discuss this further please reach out to our office.Thank you.Review fromFelicia M

Feeling very cheated and would like others to be aware. Although Wahl representatives were very friendly and the work they did seems well done, I question if the work was truly necessary. "Gas leak!" The thought creates fear. Wahl used our fear against us. We had a gas leak idenfied by Wahl when they came to our home to provide a yearly maintenance for the water heater. It was small, no oder and at two connecting points along the pipe. It was not an emergency although Wahl representatives lead us to belief it was and would come with a high price in order to make us safe. They even took special care to have us sign what they called an "Emergency Waiver" so that we waived our rights to a 3 day option to cancel service with them. This way they could get the emergency fixed for us right away. Sadly I did my research too late. Based on my research, this was an easy fix with a range in cost from $350- $1700 for something extreme which this was not. I am embarrassed to say we paid $4500 for new pipe, updates to the connection to the furnace, the never-going-to-leak-again best connectors on the pipe, additional hook ups for gas operated appliances we don't have and a cool shut off valve inside our house. The whole works takes up less space and it looks nice- I admit. However, it was not necessary to fix our problem. All of this was Wahl's expert opinion on what would keep us safe. They took advantage of us, made us feel afraid and upsold well beyond what was needed.

Dear valued customer,Our goal is to provide our customers with 5-************* We appreciate that you took the time to let us know that you arent not fully satisfied with your experience. We apologize that you feel that we used scare tactics during the process of sharing the information with you. Our goal is not to scare our customers but rather to provide all the available information so that they can make an informed decision based on what works best for them. In situations where natural gas leaks are identified its important that we let our customers know that its a hazardous situation regardless of how seemingly large or small the leak(s) are. Once there is an opening in a gas line the gas is constantly flowing or pushing through that opening causing it to get wider. There is no way for us to know how quickly that leak will move from small to large nor how quickly the situation will turn into a major public safety situation. For that reason, we do recommend that our customers shut-off the gas line(s) that are leaking until repairs can be made. Our safety waiver is a waiver of liability that we ask our customers to sign when weve identified a safety concern so that our company is not held liable if our findings and/or suggestions for repair are ignored and something bad does happen. This is unfortunately a necessary document for the type of work that we do. Once again, we understand that presenting this document requires us to walk that fine line and thanks in part to your feedback, we will continue to coach our technicians on how to appropriately present their findings and the form. Were sorry to hear that you are second guessing the decision that you made to replace the gas line rather than to repair it. Based on the information that we have from our visit, which includes photos and videos of the gas leaks, as well as the repair options that ************** provided, we feel that you made the right decision for the situation. The leaks identified were on the main gas line from the meter on the 1 black iron pipe. Any attempt to repair this line would have included putting a significant amount of pressure on that gas line to break it apart. Banging and pulling on old gas line weakens the joints of the ************* pipes and often creates more leaks down the line. This high likelihood of additional leaks on gas line of the same age with joints weakened by cutting and banging on them is why we recommended repairing more than the leaking fittings. The solution that you choose included replacing all the exposed gas lines with flexible *********** line that is made up almost entirely of one piece of gas line. You now have far fewer joints that can leak (only at the gas line that is behind the walls), which is why weve been able to give you a 5-year complete warranty on all the new gas lines that we replaced. Our work also includes a lifetime done right guarantee which promises that the work has been done correctly to state and local building codes or better. Should you go to sell your properly in 10 years and the codes for that gas line havent changed, and there is an issue, well come back and fix it at no charge to you. We hope that the information weve provided here has been helpful in addressing some of your concerns. We will follow up with a phone call to you to discuss your concerns in greater detail.Sincerely,
