Our toddler attended this school from Sept - Nov 2022. On the afternoon of Dec 2nd we received a call from a police detective investigating possible child abuse by an employee at the school. The employee allegedly hit my daughter and another toddler just prior to Thanksgiving.
Around the time of the alleged incident (but before we heard from the police), our daughter displayed unusual behavior for her, such as wanting to be held all night instead of sleeping on her own, cringing away from people, etc. We were convinced that the allegations were true.
We tried to set up a meeting with the owners of the school, but they were unaccommodating. When we were able to meet with them, they claimed that the incident may not have happened, though they said they were going to take several steps. Those steps included 1) Training the employees to report problems to them rather than directly to Childline. 2) Try to figure out who reported the incident. They put the employee back into the classroom once the police investigation concluded, so whoever reported the incidents would have to work with that person again. Why would that person admit to reporting? 3) Have more adults cycling through the rooms more frequently to monitor (this is a good idea!). 4) Tell the employees "No more bad days". If they get frustrated, get help and take a break. This isn't terrible advice, but hitting a toddler or two seems beyond a "bad day" and was insulting to hear that's how they viewed the treatment of my child.
We felt less safe after the meeting so we withdrew our daughter. It took over a month for them to respond to my requests to return belongings and they see no problem with keeping an extra month of money (and even claimed they could charge us for 2 extra months). They also ignored my request that they contact the other parents to explain what had occurred in the classroom.
I hope our review helps you choose a safe and responsive school for your children.
