Very difficult to work with and not accommodating. We had an experience where my son with special needs, state issued medical insurance was cancelled, and we had to reapply (it was our first experience with renewal and we had moved and notification went to old address and we were unaware. Now that we are aware this is not something that will EVER happen again). I didn't know how long it would take to get insurance back in place, and we needed ear molds made for his hearing aids. I spoke to Dr. Murphy and agreed to pay out of pocket for the ear molds (the ear molds take 3-4 weeks to be made and we could not wait to see if/when insurance was reinstated). Two days later we received notice from the county that my son's insurance was approved and was back dated 3 weeks. I called Dr. Murphy and asked if he would kindly refund the money I had paid and then bill insurance for the ear molds. He said he was unable to do that because the payment had already been processed. I said ok I'll try to submit the bill through insurance for reimbursement. Insurance informed me they do not issue reimbursements, and it must be paid directly to provider. I contacted Dr. Murphy to explain this. He continued to insist this was not something he could do. I continued to press the issue and told him the insurance said that if he would not work with us, we could start a grievance, which I did not want to do. In the end he did reimburse for out-of-pocket expenses and billed insurance, but he sent us a letter saying from this point forward we would need to find another vendor for durable medical equipment. He is the only hearing aid vendor in the area that accepts the state insurance for children with hearing needs, so this puts us in a hardship when my son needs equipment (because now we need to drive an hour away to the next vendor that accepts this insurance). He did this purposefully because he was not willing to put in the minimal work to refund a payment and then rightfully bill insurance.
