I was sent home with a walking boot after foot surgery. The boot was too small and caused some issues with my ankle that I now have to do PT. I ended up purchasing the same one in a larger size from an online retailer. The new boot was around $80. Seven weeks after surgery I received a bill from Orthotic Prosthetic Center in BG for the original boot. They are trying to charge me $459 for a boot that costs $80 or less anywhere else. They have alreayd received payment from my insurance of $146. That more than covers the cost. They are now billing me another $175. This is fraudulent behavior to more than quadruple the cost of an item. Myinsurance has already paid plenty and they still want me to pay more. I could have purchased 5 boots online for the price they are trying to make me pay. I never signed anything for this company to bill my insurance & the doctor never said anything about this company to me. If I had been aware of this I would have purchased the boot on my own. It is unacceptable & fraudulent to charge the insurance company 5 times the cost of the item. They have already made money off this sale and are trying to get more from me.
