2ExcelGroup was responsible for fixing deficiencies in my upstairs bathroom left by another contractor but after taking over the work they: 1) failed to verify there were appropriate permits for the work; and 2) failed to ensure that its first subcontractor, Jason ***** was capable of appropriately tiling around the bathtub, laying the floor tile, measuring the correct location of the vanity and vanity light, and grouting the floor. After discovering these deficiencies, a second worker had to completely tear out the tile work around the bath tub and start over, delaying what should have been a 6-day project into over two months. I had to purchase additional tile, grout, tools, and paint.
To make matters work, Mr. LaRick *******, the owner of 2Excel Group, started on a deck project that I did not intend to complete until at least October. He expressed urgency to begin the project because he had "a guy" who was only available for a short period of time. It turned out that "the guy," Brian ********* was an uninsured, unbonded, and unregistered contractor with the City of Cleveland, who did not know how to take the appropriate measurements to construct the deck. When he entered into a payment dispute with *******, ******** called the City to report the lack of permits, which is when I discovered that ******* never applied for them. I then had to incur the expense of the permits and the cost of an inspection. In a series of email exchanges with *******, I further learned that ******** did not have limited availability but him and three others were in fact found by ******* on *********** When I stated to ******* that I was seeking a second opinion, he retaliated by stopping work on my bathroom even though I paid him the full $8,000 contract price. He eventually told me that to finish my bathroom I would have to pay him for the deficient labor on the deck. I told him the deck had nothing to do with my bathroom. I've since had to pay others to finish my bathroom and deck.
