I wanted to wait to write this review to verify my situation. I brought a vehicle in to Waterloo Transmission because I thought I had over worked and damaged the transmission. Cost to diagnose was about $100- not a lot vs the cost of a major issue, but they also told me not to drive it and to have it towed. Total cost was about $300-$400 for tow and diagnosis. After diagnosis, Waterloo Transmission assured me that my transmission was ruined- cost to install a rebuilt was just under $4000. I asked, but they told me that the damage (leaking seal) was not visible. I asked if we could put it on the lift so they could point out the damaged area and they again said that it wouldn't be visible. I called another local shop (see my other reviews) who I've used before and they took the time to explain how the transmission can vent fluid when it's overworked and that they'd be happy to look at it-no charge. We decided that if the trans was ruined anyway, it wouldn't increase cost to continue to drive it. Cost to rebuild through the other local shop was over $1000 less, if needed. It isn't chump change when it's time to look at getting a new transmission. Now, almost 1700 miles of normal driving later (I keep a mileage log), I am certain that one of two things happened: either 1) Waterloo Transmission grossly/negligently misdiagnosed my issue, which nearly cost me $4000, or 2) they knew what happened and tried to take advantage of me. Other people's results may vary, but I won't take another vehicle to Waterloo Transmission. If their misdiagnosis was simply an honest mistake, pure logic has me seriously questioning their ability to competently repair the problem.I don't write many reviews, but I felt compelled to let others know of this experience. This is an instance where zero stars would be a more accurate rating than one star.
