This homeschool is horrid! Not only did we pay for tuition monthly, but they taught our daughter nothing at all, given an online software and expected to know it all on her own. After a month of going back and forth with the success coach and her teachers, we pulled our daughter from the school (while being currently paid up through that month) and placed her back into public high school. The school has refused to send transcripts, credits earned, final grades, etc. to anyone in her current school district which are needed to calculate for her senior graduation coming up in less than a year now. Not only are they refusing to hand over the transcripts for months of the software that she wasn’t using because she was back into public school, they continue to try and bill us in excess of $1,000. In California pursuant to penal code AB 1313 which CLEARLY states that: “On October 4, 2019, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law Assembly Bill 1313, prohibiting postsecondary schools from withholding transcripts as a debt collection tool. The new law goes into effect January 1, 2020.   AB 1313 adds new Title 1.6C.7, the “Educational Debt Collection Practices Act,” to Part 4 of Division 3 of the California Civil Code.   Under the Act, schools will no longer be able to refuse, condition or otherwise restrict transcripts to students on the grounds that they owe a debt. Schools also cannot charge a higher fee for a transcript or provide less favorable treatment to transcript requests for students with outstanding debts.    Under the Act, a “School” means any public or private postsecondary school, or any public or private entity, responsible for providing transcripts to current or former students of a school.” IVLA needs to be shut down! They are absolutely for PROFIT and not for the greater education of their students, staff, or families that financially line their pockets every month!

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We take all feedback seriously and would like to address the issues you raised regarding your daughter’s enrollment in our homeschool program.

Upon reviewing the account and educational records, we have found the following:

    1. Payment Status: While you did make payments toward tuition, the account was not fully current at the time of your daughter’s withdrawal from the program. There is still an outstanding balance, which is why further billing notices were sent. We understand the frustration this may have caused, and we are happy to provide a detailed breakdown of the charges upon request.

    2. Academic Progress: Your daughter’s academic progress during her time with us was also carefully reviewed. Unfortunately, based on the amount of work completed, she did not fulfill the necessary requirements to earn any course credits. As a result, no final grades or credits can be provided.

    3. Transcript Requests: We have not refused to send transcripts, but as stated above, since no credits were earned, there are no transcripts or final grades to send to her current school. We can confirm her enrollment and the duration of her attendance if needed by the new school, but academic records are contingent upon the completion of coursework, which was not achieved.

We understand that this may not be the resolution you were hoping for, but we are committed to upholding the academic standards required for credit and transcript issuance.

Should you have any further questions or wish to discuss the outstanding balance, please feel free to contact us.
