  I just formed an LCC in North Carolina, and I get this letter rather quickly after my business is approved by the state. At first, this notice looked official and I was upset about having to pay $82 since I am a new business with not much in the bank account, and the formation process with the state was not exactly cheap. I thought something looked strange and I ****** searched this company, using the return address on the envelope. I saw there were numerous complaints to the BBB that this company is a scam. I also learned this filing fee is not required by the state, and most of all the state would not use some 3rd party service (I learned this is a 3rd party on the ****** search). The return address on the envelope came up as some print shop in *******. Let this be a warning to other new business owners out there to NOT pay them!!

This is a business scheme and not necessary. Businesses are not required to order a Certificate of Existence as a step in the formation process. See below for more information about Certificates of Existence. This company is using public information on the records of the Secretary of State’s office to solicit North Carolina businesses. Please click this sentence to see a copy of the scheme mailing. Certificate of Existence You can order a Certificate of Existence directly from the Secretary of State’s Office for $15 or less. (See table below) A Certificate of Existence is a certificate issued by the Secretary of State setting out particulars of the organization and status of business entity.
