    Deceitful! Beware of hidden fees! **** came recommended from a friend. I was out of town during the storm in early November 2022 and a tree fell on our house (thankfully little damage). My wife was unable to get the largest part of the tree off the house. She contacted Independent Tree Service from the recommendation of a friend. They came and said they would need to come back with an additional hand and different equipment. They also said they did not have enough time to provide an estimate due to how busy they were. (understandable considering they were probably pretty busy from all of the storm damage around the valley). BUT, what they could have easily said was- We consider this emergency service and we charge $495 an hour. This could take 1-3 hours etc and honestly, that would have been fine. But they gave zero estimate at the time. Then we received the invoice which added a 1hr commute (30 mins each way) to the 1.5 hour job charging $495 an hour for the commute. The cost to take the tree down was only $742.50. Had we known that we would have found a closer tree service and/or waited until I got home. Total for one large birch trunk to be removed off a house $1262.50 Tree service is expensive, I get it. I worked on a tree farm for 1/3rd of my life. It's a busy dangerous job in sometimes horrible conditions. But this is just straight up deceitful by omission. On top of this (speculating here) I doubt we were their only job of the day. So if they probably went to another job or came from another job and now double dipped their billed travel time with the next customer/s.
