Important information
- Believed to be out of business:According to information in BBB files, it appears that this business is no longer in business.
- Additional Info:BBB Investigation Results
On 05/15/2018 BBB of MD initiated an investigation in "MD Global Retailer" after receiving a BBB Scam Tracker report alleging that this business posed as a potential employer to obtain personal identifiable information from consumers.
The consumer reported that the business sent an employment offer for a "Store Room Manager" position via email. The business provided the consumer with log-in access to an online package tracking portal which listed new and completed orders (both blank).
The consumer also reported that after the business obtained a completed employment application and tax documents, the business ceased all contact.
BBB Serving Greater Maryland contacted an attendant at the office building where the business claims to operate: 201 E Baltimore S, Suite 1605 Baltimore, MD 21202 (*contains typo). The attendant informed BBB that while this business claims to operate from Suite 1605, to her knowledge, there are no businesses operating on the 16th floor of the building. This information led BBB to conclude that the business does not truly operate from said address.
BBB reviewed the business' website and noted that the services listed involve the shipping and re-shipping of packages.
Based on consumer reports received about this business, and BBB's review of the website, BBB concluded that this business is a work-at-home employment scam.
On 08/30/2018 BBB Serving Greater Marlyand received a consumer report which led to the discovery of a duplicate website that operated under the name "St. Marketing, LLC". The report indicated that the business offered a "Storeroom Manager" position. Review of the employment contracts revealed that the position involved establishing business entity registration, a warehouse for business operations, a business bank account, online merchant accounts, and templates/form letters to communicate with customers all on behalf of the business. The position also involved opening packages, addressed to other consumers, inspecting the contents, and shipping them elsewhere.
Consumer's should be aware that it is ILLEGAL to open packages that are not addressed to you.
Employment scams are one of the most common and most risky scam types reported to BBB.
The goal is typically to:
-Obtain personal information necessary to steal your identity
-Convince you to forward money from your account to unknown parties (non refundable)
-Recruit you as a money mule to be left responsible for the scam, if ever exposed
-Have you unknowingly forward goods that were purchased unlawfully to cloud the source of
shipments/transactions.
-Have you unknowingly help a scam operation appear as a legitimate business.
Red flags to look out for:
-The "job duties" detailed in the employment offers typically appear to be too-good-to be-true, offering unrealistic salaries for the duties required.
-Pay/check/money order is received prior to work being performed
-The business claims to have a rich history but the website was recently created.
-Business hires you without conducting a phone call/ in person interview
-Duties required seem fishy, illegal, or require licensing ( examples: reshipping/receiving money to be sent elsewhere)
