on one of the hottest days of the summer so far. Our air
conditioner star is a struggle. Call multiple companies to come out and
check it out. But of course of the high heat they were booked until the
following day or further out. We called ricottas heating and air and
they said they can make it out later that evening. They showed up as
they promised. They self diagnosed it as it being low on 2.5 lbs of
Freon. They charged $250 per pound for the freon and $300 for a sealant
“that fixes the problem 99.5% of the time.”
He had me over a barrel. Not having no knowledge about HVAC and nobody
else available that evening to fix it. I reluctantly agreed. I paid over
$1200 to repair my AC. I had a pad too much but didn’t have a choice.
The next day my regular HVAC guy came
over to check out what the problem was. I explained to him what Ricottas
did and what they charge us. He explained to us that he charged $250 a
1lb for freon when the typical cost is $60-$80 consumers priced. He also
pointed out it was still low on freon, actually almost the same amount
as Ricotta’s replaced 12 hours earlier. I was furious. One of two things
happened I was charged for propane ($600) I never received or the
sealant ($300) that didn’t work! Or Both!
I made numerous cause other HVAC companies and ask about their prices
for propane and sealants and the same situation I went through and how
much it would cost. They gave me an a quote that was half if not 2/3
less than what **** from ricottas heating and cooling charged us.
I called **** from *******‘s and told him my frustrations. He didn’t
agree with what other vendors told me about the price. He said he was
just an honest man trying to take a living. I explained to him I was as
an honest customer he was just trying to get my family a nice place to
sleep for the evening. I then had to threaten to write the Better
Business Bureau and file a complaint. He then agreed to partial refund
me $350 out of the $1250 bill he charge me.
