    My 95 year old Mom has been using her GrandPad for 5 years now and our whole family loves it! Mom can play games for hours each day, listen to big band tunes, look at photos we send her, get video calls ONLY from the people we add to the call list. The security of that feature is priceless. The customer service reps have been wonderful and when there has been an issue, it was resolved quickly and with kindness.

    A huge shout out and thank you to Consumer Cellular #consumerCellular for their new Grandpad which is basically like an Ipad but geared towards older people who are technologically challenged and visually impaired. I'm not really tech challenged but I am visually impaired and this helps me soooooo much. I got it yesterday and I can see it all well. I am playing games, watching videos that I couldn't see before with a cell phone, adding my own curated music collection with sound on this like surround sound. Its amazing! Its great to be able to see everything so much better.

    Although there were many attributes of the GrandPad that were extremely useful, there were some characteristics that severely limited the effective use of the phone by my mother, and I’m sure other GrandPad users. I mentioned these issues to GrandPad staff early in our ownership, and was told that they would be considered, but no changes were made. Those issues: (1) First, a plaudit – thank goodness GrandPad had a Zoom utility. Mom never quite got consistent about being able to get on the Zoom call, but it was a great way to communicate once she got on. (2) The fact that there was never a way of creating a list of names and numbers in Mom’s GrandPad phone so that there was a “look-up” function was severely inhibiting. She had a list of at least 30 friends/acquaintances that she wanted to be able to call, or to be able to call her. Yet, in order to find a specific person she wanted to call, she would have to scroll two by two,, possibly through to the end, if that’s where her specific person happened to be. It’s almost unimaginable to me that this problem couldn’t have been corrected. (3) That issue was compounded by the extremely low number of spaces available to provide the name of any given person. If you happened to know 3 persons named “Beverly” and didn’t have their photos embedded, there’s no way Mom could know which was the “Beverly” she wanted to call. She couldn’t see the phone numbers, and she couldn’t see the last names. Unacceptable ! (4) I did get technical assistance to learn how to change the order of the names, so that those called more frequently would be moved toward the top. This helped, but it was an inadequate fix. (5) The ability to access support is great. Chatting (myself) or calling (Mom) (6) The photo album is great, and the way GrandPad puts photos from an email automatically into the album is great.
