Liquid web's website hosting service is just sad. Their talk of Sun City AZ allows members to harass, use extremely foul language, discriminate, ban, remove posts with no explanation. I have been called more names than I can count, my religion has been attacked. They never respond to complaints.

Wow did not come here expecting to find the same issue, but guess Baltazar and myself ran into the same terrible behavior. I signed up for a $5 /mo VPS credit card info matched the billing address, showed two charges and a credit on the credit card then got the 'fraud email'. They requested from and back scans of two forms of government ID aka passport and drivers license. For a $5 mo VPS?????? What is funny is that for a 'technology' company they seem fairly technology illiterate. If they implemented proper 3d secure checkout process (ie amex key) they would have 0 fraud liability. Instead they ask for copies of highly personal information, and to protect what? It isn't even like the VPS is a physical good. I sent them a copy of the amex charges assuming having access to the account would be enough but no. Moved on to one of their competitors and had a VPS up in under 15 minutes. My favorite part was when **** said: "As stated in the email, the system was unfortunately triggered during the purchase - this is something we have no control over " Um, yes its your system, you have the control.

    Hi ***,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We truly regret that your experience with our fraud verification process left you feeling frustrated. That was never our intention.

Our priority is to ensure a secure hosting environment for all customers, which sometimes requires additional verification steps. We understand that being asked for personal identification can feel excessive. However, our fraud detection system is designed to proactively protect against misuse, account compromise, and identity theft, not only for our own infrastructure but also to safeguard our customers data and financial information.

You're absolutely right that the system and policies are ours, and we take full responsibility for them. The intent behind statements like "the system was triggered" is not to deflect blame but to explain that automated checks occasionally flag legitimate purchases based on various risk factors. In such cases, we ask for documentation only to confirm identity and prevent potential abuse, not to inconvenience or question the integrity of our customers.

We are actively reviewing how we can make this process more seamless, especially for low-risk transactions and new users. Your feedback plays an important role in helping us improve, and we appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

We're sorry to see you go but wish you the best with your new provider. If you ever reconsider or would like to give us another chance, wed be happy to personally assist and make your onboarding experience smoother.

    Warm regards,
    The Liquid Web Team

Liquid Web has singled us out, targeted us, and requested personal information that is not standard nor required, as stated in their public privacy policy. We were looking for an alternative provider other than Godaddy, so we pre-paid LiquidWeb for a 3-year subscription to use a Virtual Private Server (VPS). They told us that we were a fraud, refused to tell us why, and immediately mandated that we email them two government-issued identifications. NOTE: Their request is not an industry standard to our knowledge with any other server hosting providers such as Godaddy. They also have no public privacy policy to ensure safeguards for requesting and storing government identifications. We asked if they could provide a secure encrypted way to send them two forms of ID, and they would not provide one. So we offered to send them other forms of identification that are less sensitive in nature, and they rejected them. They refused to tell us what precisely they are looking for in our two forms of government ID to make sure everything is correct when purchasing VPS services, which couldn't be accomplished by alternative methods. Their public terms of service don't require any form of government ID from all of their new and existing customers. NOTE: They are not a financial institution where requesting government identifications is part of KYC and industry standards. We also never gave them permission to pull credit, etc. We feel targeted, mistreated, and discriminated against. They selectively created barriers to entry and mandates for us. We have done them no wrong and provided all the standard information stated in their Privacy Policy under the Customers section. We have all the email evidence to support this complaint.

    Hi ********,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We truly regret hearing this about your onboarding process. That is never the experience we want for any customer.

In rare cases, our automated fraud prevention systems flag transactions based on a combination of risk factors, not personal identity or intent. These systems are in place to protect not only our infrastructure but also to prevent misuse, identity theft, and financial fraud. While we understand your comparison to other providers, each hosting company adopts its own risk mitigation policies, and in some cases, additional verification, including government-issued ID, is required when red flags are triggered.

We take data privacy and security extremely seriously and we follow strict internal protocols and applicable data protection laws. While our Privacy Policy outlines what data we collect and how it's used, we acknowledge your point about the lack of detail regarding ID handling. This is something we are reviewing closely to ensure clarity and alignment with customer expectations.

We want to be unequivocally clear: at no point is our fraud review process meant to be selective, targeted, or discriminatory. We understand that being asked for additional verification, especially without full insight into the criteria used, can feel arbitrary. We are actively working on improving the transparency and customer communication around these requests to prevent confusion and mistrust.

We are reviewing how we can improve this process and if youre open to it, wed truly appreciate the opportunity to make things right. Well ensure your case receives the thorough review it deserves.

    Sincerely,
    The Liquid Web Team
