I hired ****** Flaherty Painting and Handyman company to repair a leaky garage roof November 2023. I do not use my garage other than for storage for landscaping tools and machinery. I went into garage in March 2024 (4 months later) and noticed everything all wet. Contacted ******, who completely ignored my text. I finally gave up and on 8-21-24 I asked him to supply his certificate of insurance which I did not have a copy of, he then answered me and told me, NO, his insurance doesn't cover it and because I also I waited 4 months to contact him. (he just waited an add'l 5 months to return my text) He told me to file a claim with my homeowners insurance. I told him his paperwork, his emails and quote to me states fully insured. He said he spoke to his insurance company who advised him it was a homeowners claim and told me go ahead and seek alternative recourse he did nothing wrong!. He also claims he told me my roof needs to be replace and he'd attempt to repair, I would never have spent $1400 on a maybe!! I would have put cost into replacing roof for $3K. I told him to supply me with certificate and let his insurance company tell me no, not him. He is bound to give that to me. He refused.

The information above is not accurate. I told the customer I would ATTEMPT to patch a very old roof on a very old structure that had very limited time left. Both the roof and structure support need replacing - what is there is essentially a tear down. I did that in November of 2023. After an ENTIRE WINTER the customer contacted me with the statement that it was leaking. She did not ask for any action and I was not intending to go back there to do additional work after the structure had taken a winter's worth of activity. I did not reply and did not hear back from her again.

She contacted me in August of 2024 telling me that since I hadn't responded (in March, 6 months prior) demanding my insurance. I heard from her once and only once in March and, again, she made a statement that her garage was leaking again. Did not ask for anything in that initial message and had she asked me to do something I would have indicated that she rode out the entire winter with the garage in that condition. When she asked me 9 months later for my insurance information I told her I was not providing my insurance information because it is not a result of my work. It is a result of aging and needing replacement.

I contacted my insurance company, informed them of the above information (typed here) and my insurance company representative told me that the time limit that had passed (4 months from when I completed a roof patch) did not warrant me providing her that information. I followed the lead of my insurance company and do not believe I am in the wrong here. I have been in business for 8 years and not once had a complaint.
