Id like to do what I can to warn others away from this business so they dont have to deal with the same mess I have. ********************* retired and I picked one of the two accounting businesses in my small town. Unfortunately, I made the wrong choice. I went in and sat with him thinking he may have questions and weirdly he didnt have any. When I picked up my taxes, I noticed he had my address and he said itd be fine and filed correctly, it was not. It took 8 months to get my state refund after much back & forth and he was not much help. I dont know much about what I am looking at when it comes to taxes so I wondered what else was messed up. I went to a different accountant this year and told her about my concerns, she offered to look at all of my documents/return from last year and there were multiple errors. The most concerning was no IL return filed at all despite having ****s from our IL farmers and grain elevator. So, we filed an amended return and filed with IL so I got some penalties from IL since it should have been done last year, I also had to pay $450 to have the new accountant get us straightened out. Im relieved I was able to get with an accountant I can trust knows what shes doing but Id like to warn others to avoid Drees so they dont have the same issues or worse than I did. I know its standard procedure that another accountant review your stuff before they finalize so clearly whoever reviewed ours didnt find very simple and obvious mistakes so for that reason I would recommend you avoid using their services all together. After mentioning this to a few people, Ive been told there are many people whove had troubles and if they had known I was considering Drees they would have told me not to go there. So, Im trying to get the word out. Its my understanding the founding partners from Drees were good accountants but the business has been sold and theyre using the same name and definitely not the standard of business it once was.
