U of I Credit Union based in Champaign merged with my Credit Union last fall (2022), and at the beginning of this year (2023), I was notified that my existing credit card would be shut off, and I was given several options on how to maintain and continue the relationship. Once I agreed to transfer to the new card, I signed up for the mobile app, and started looking at my relationship, especially my auto loan which only had a few months remaining.
I noticed my loan had an extra $999.99 added without explanation. I reached out to UOFICCU for answers, and was told it was "CPI Insurance", and it was their "policy" if auto insurance deductible didn't match their requirements. This wasn't written into my original contract, and at no point did was my loan restructured.
I have tried for the last 2 months to have this fee waived so I can pay off my loan, and have been getting the run around as to what is needed to waive this fee. One employee also mentioned that others have complained, which concerns me more, because there a a lot more that likely haven't paid attention and are paying higher fee's than their contract requires.
The BBB needs to look info this organization, and review their policies on existing contracts, and adding unnecessary fee's without cause.
