I am a woman in town for a job interview. Needed a ride from airport to hotel; Uber was having a big price spike and I thought it would be cheaper to call one of the two taxi services that had been included in the logistics email I got from the dept I'm interviewing with. Same number listed as a legit taxi service on the BMI site. The guy said it would be a 20 minute wait; I waited for almost an hour. Unmarked car. No license, no meter, and another person in the front seat with him. I am completely unfamiliar with B-N area. As we're driving he tells me that something's wrong with his "processing" and he can't take credit cards, will I need to stop at an ATM? I ask what the charge will be (this is when I notice that there isn't a meter) and he says "95." 95 DOLLARS (twice what the Uber price spike was). Something about a service charge because it's the airport and he's coming from farther away. ??? I started texting friends at this point in case I needed someone to call the police. He stops at a convenience store and I pay the $95 + tip because I'm scared. I will be reimbursed for this as part of my travel reimbursement for the interview, but I'm annoyed that I'm having to ask for that much. Super shady and scary. Did not make me want to move here.

Had to award 1 star to post this. DESPICABLE. Unexpectedly needed a ride to the airport at 4:30am. No Uber drivers were available, so I called this guy's number which is also associated with a taxi service. Did a quick Google and the first thing listed is: "Bloomington Normal Yellow Cab/Twin City Taxi ". (I have since confirmed this taxi service is owned by the same person as the Bloomington-Normal Limousine & Shuttle Service with the police). He said he'd be there to pick me up in 20 mins. He was 1 hour late and blamed me for not planning better. I am a young female and was alone. After he started driving, I noticed there are NO LICENSES OR DOCUMENTATION in his vehicle noting he is a driver of any kind for any company. When we were halfway to the airport, he said he can't take credit cards and asked if I needed to go to an ATM. Go with a strange man at 5:30am in an unfamiliar area to a second location??? No thanks! I said no, go to the airport. When we arrived, he demanded $120 cash for a 3-mile ride to the airport. When I declined to pay that much (I didn't have $120 cash on me anyways), he became agitated, called me a "sass" and demanded we go to an ATM and began driving. I sent my location to my family and friends. I got the money and gave it to him out of fear of what might happen if I didn't. THIS IS NOT SAFE. He scammed me out of $120 and made me feel unsafe. No one under any circumstances should hire this company.
