  This was the first time I have published through BOOK LOCKER, but it will definitely not be the last. Each member of the staff was efficient, pleasant, and outstanding. Throughout the process, the communication was amazing and the support exceptional .   BookLocker deserves a lot more than five stars! I had a terrible experience self-publishing an earlier mystery novel and was not eager about repeating the experience. After spending a couple of months searching for a self-publisher, i came across BookLocker and in contact with Angela H**. She walked me through their process which was straight forward and without any hidden or surprise costs--what wonderful change from my first experience!
  Each member I worked with explained what they needed from.me and kept me informed as the process progressed. When my final copy arrived I was thrilled with the high quality of the paperback cover and pages. This is a book I am truly proud of authoring in a large part because of BookLocker.   Just before and during the Pandemic, I decided to change careers at this late stage in life. So many mental health issues were plagueing Americans. As a retired psychiatrist who worked with both adults and children, I had a calling to help the many at one time through writing books, instead of one patient at a time. After conquering the fear of putting my thoughts onto paper, the trepidation of finding a publisher loomed large. After swallowing my pride from being rejected by "Big name Publishers", I started looking at self publishing as I strongly believed in my message and direction for a healthier lifestyle. I lucked out with Booklocker as Angela, Ali and Justin made the whole process easy to navigate. Todd did an amazing job with all my book covers and I receive compliments on them all the time. I published 4 books with them in a space of 2 years, US and Us Unhinged to US Fractured. With all the current turmoil, I need to market my books more, as so much is at stake for the welfare of this Great Nation.   I don’t remember why I chose Booklocker to publish my first book in, 2001, but I can tell you why I just published my second book with them in 2023. Very simple… Angela, Ali, and Justin make the process clear, and easy to follow; but most of all, I was treated like family. They know what it’s like to write a book that becomes your baby… “she” was treated with kid gloves. What a blessing to feel like you have friends… that you’ve never met in person.
  To still be able to interact directly with Angela, the CEO, after 26 years is just one sign that Booklocker puts the customer first. In a day and age when customer service often gets relegated to the back burner… it’s a joy to know that my business is appreciated. Last, but not least… the quality of my book, from exquisite front cover to back cover, was beyond my expectations. I look forward to publishing the third edition of my original book next, and I’m delighted to say my wife (who published a book before we met), is bringing her manuscript to Booklocker as soon as her second edition is finished. The industry has changed a lot since then but we still treat all of our authors like family, because they are! :) And, I admit I chuckled when I saw the wordplay Rick A**** put into the title of his new book, G**** ********** ** **********. ;)

  Yes, our cover designer, Todd, created an outstanding cover for "Hey Freelancer Go Clone Yourself!" And, that book offers EXCELLENT advice for freelancers on how to subcontract your work to others. Best of all was working with Kathleen and her co-author Michael Stover. They are both professional, responded promptly to everything we sent, and were so friendly and awesome! :)

  Rosemary Gard is one of our most prolific authors! She is also very good at social media promotion of her books. Many author could take lessons from her!   A joke. They sold negligible copies of a book I had years invested in, and now refuse to allow me to unsubscribe to their stupid newsletter. Can you imagine a company so desperate it FORCES dissatisfied customers to receive their tripe?

  Chris Kassel, the author of The Awful Grace of Littlefarm, published his book with us in 2021 - a paperback, a hardcover, and an ebook. 
  
  All of our authors receive occasional newsletters from us alerting them to industry news, contractual updates/changes, new distribution outlets for their books, sales we run, holiday printing deadlines from the printer (in order to get books by Christmas), and much more. Emailing someone with which you have an active business contract is not spam. 
  
  Mr. Kassel tried to unsubscribe from our newsletter. I sent him a friendly email reminding him that he still had a book for sale through BookLocker and that all of our authors must receive our emails. He did not respond. Instead, he posted a negative review here. 
  
  Regarding sales: 
  
  All BookLocker authors are provided with a free copy of 90+ Days of Promoting Your Book Online and a free copy of 55 Dos and Don't of Book Selling. It does not appear Mr. Kassel utilitized the advice we provided in those books. We posted Mr. Kassel's books on our website, Amazon, Walmart.com, BarnesandNoble.com, BooksaMillion.com, Chapters/Indigo, Apple, Kobo, Overdrive, and numerous other retailers across the globe. 
  
  We also sent Mr. Kassel several questions back in June, 2021 so we could create a book trailer (advertising video) for his books to post to our website and YouTube. Our system showed that Mr. Kassel clicked to view our message but he never answered our questions.
  
  If an author refuses to help with book promotion, our hands are tied. It is unfortunate but it does happen some times. We have thousands of authors who do actively promote their books and you can read numerous 5-star reviews from some of them here on the BBB.org website.

  I have worked with Booklocker.com for two very different books, NLD From The Inside Out (1st ed. was in 2007) and King Kong Sudoku (2022), and I have to say, Angela and the rest of the team are VERY nice, honest, tolerant, and give the author a lot of leeway -- leeway that mid-range and larger publishers would NEVER give. And the Booklocker crew is not too ashamed nor proud to admit when they make a mistake, again, something that middle-large publishers would never do. Plus, the royalty rates are fantastic -- 35% for paperback and 70% for ebooks. Again, at any other "regular" publisher, you would have to consider yourself lucky to get 10% -- I know, because I've experienced this firsthand when I made the switch to a mid-range publisher for the Third Edition of NLD From The Inside Out. Plus, the cover and interior design aspects are great, too. Overall, I highly, highly recommend using Booklocker if you're just starting out as an indie/niche author.
