I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with a recent experience I had at one of your stores, specifically regarding the refusal to accept a valid Ontario, Canada ID for a tobacco product purchase. On [date], my 28-year-old son visited your store and was denied the purchase of a product despite presenting his Ontario photo identification, which clearly shows that he is of legal age to purchase tobacco products. Your staff informed him that out-of-state IDs are not accepted for age verification, which contradicts my understanding of both Florida law and general business practices. Florida law requires age verification for tobacco sales, but it does not specify that out-of-state or foreign IDs are unacceptable, as long as they are government-issued and valid. The refusal to accept my son’s ID seems not only arbitrary but also discriminatory, creating an unpleasant and unwelcoming atmosphere for customers. Additionally, when I offered to present my Florida Driver License and pay for the product on my son’s behalf, I was further denied the purchase because he had selected the product. This experience left a negative impression, and I believe it reflects poorly on your store’s customer service and business practices. It suggests a lack of flexibility, and ultimately, it discourages customer satisfaction and retention. In the long run, such policies can lead to bad publicity and harm your store’s reputation, which could affect sales and customer loyalty. I strongly urge you to reconsider this unreasonable practice. There is no law prohibiting the acceptance of valid out-of-state or foreign IDs for age verification in Florida, and such a policy does not serve to prevent fraud or crime but instead creates unnecessary friction with your customers. I hope you will review this issue and take steps to ensure a more customer-friendly approach in the future. I would appreciate a response addressing my concerns and any corrective measures that will be put in place.
