Instead of SMD these “movers” should be named WMD. I hired them to pack /store some things while my house was listed & then to pack valuables & move everything cross country. It started badly and only got worse. I have asthma and WMD’s owner promised me non-smoking movers, so I was surprised when a heavy smoker with a bad attitude arrived. That was only the start of the issues. They were careless (negligent really) and could not follow clear instructions. They left multiple items I had told them to take; the time it took them to return caused me to miss my flight and pay to stay overnight at the airport. SMD packed my container, a 3rd party drove it & I hired local movers to unpack. As soon as they opened the container, the local guys called me over and said to “bring my camera.” I was HORRIFIED at what WMD had done. Expensive furniture was just thrown on the truck with no protection. Items were gouged, smashed & destroyed. One item even had TIRE TRACKS on it. Yes, they DROVE OVER my furniture. Once I opened boxes, it got even worse. The electronics I paid them to pack were dropped into boxes with a single sheet of paper as protection. Expensive dishes weren’t wrapped at all. Every single framed item was damaged. Multiple items were missing – like a hand-painted, irreplaceable chair. As WMD refused to provide an inventory, I still don’t know the extent of my losses/damages, but it’s likely $30-$50K. I immediately reported to WMD that I would need to file a claim for the $30K of coverage I purchased & asked for a refund of the $12K I paid them. They apologized but refused a refund. After fighting with their insurer for OVER 2 YEARS, I was paid half what they owed. Since the insurer sent the check and closed my case, I have filed complaints with every agency, and NO ONE will do anything – not even BBB. Their accreditation means nothing. Learn from my mistake – don’t let the owner’s smooth talking fool you. Don’t pay them to destroy your things! AVOID WMD AT ALL COSTS!

Like other reviewers, I am also a victim of Smooth Move and Delivery , ******** *** They damaged and destroyed thousands of dollars of my belongings. I even went so far as to pay for an additional $10,000 in insurance, but they refused to pay replacement value. Instead, they offer you 60 cents per pound, so a 50lb/ 60 inch tv gets you $30 in insurance. Or, they will claim that the item you paid excess insurance for needs to be depreciated by 10% a year and they require proof of purchase/receipts. They don’t tell you any of this or put any of this in writing. Like others, they came in with a reasonably fair estimate only to provide half the number of workers needed for the job, which doubled the estimate. A local move cost me in excess of $3000 to move one mile up the road. Let me cut to the chase, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU USE SMOOTH MOVE & DELIVERY MOVING COMPANY. Find another mover. Bait and switch pricing, terrible business practices, one sided contract that only protects them, excessive damage and destruction of furniture, I can go on and on. I had to sue them in small claims court in order to get them to be held accountable for all of the over charges and damages they caused. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! You have been warned..

If I could give 0 stars it would be more appropriate. My moving with Smooth Move was a nightmare. I called many companies to get a quote for my moving ****** ** * ******* *** They did a video call where I showed my house, garage and told them what I would sell/what I would like to be delivered. They gave me the best quote so I agreed and signed the contract. A few days before the moving they said I would need to pay a fee to compensate the price of fuel. I accepted. On moving day they arrived to my house with a little truck that I could not believe. I lived in a 5 bedrooms house, with husband, 2 kids, dog, aquarium... The employes were laughing the whole time like: do you know it's not gonna work, right? I felt so stressed the whole day, called STEVE, the lazy guy responsible for my moving and he did nothing. I had to empty the house the next day. They left my house leaving a whole garage full and destroyed the chandelier while carrying boxes and the walls painting. The next day they send a new truck to carry the rest to their storage. The moving arrived 2 days later then anticipated and the second truck only A MONTH LATER. And guess what I payed more $ 3500 than I should because they never accepted to respect the contract where they say: NOT TO EXCEED RATES. While in Stamford I went with my husband to talk to Steve, the owner Evan and I was disrespected for an employee questioning why I wanted my Christmas collection coming to ******** judging why I had so much stuff etc. My move arrived with many items broken. The owner thinks he can call my husband and say I am so sorry. That's all he did to us. He never owned his contract /word. The employees told us that happens all the time, the need to go twice because they never calculate well. Usually it's local moving so not a big problem. With my move off state it was pure madness and incompetence. After I left a ****** review they started to threaten my friend that works for then by chance, demanding he ask me to delete.
