Berated for applying for a dog. After filing an application, they put you down. First it was I did not send a copy of my lease. Then it was I am a problem for applying. The issues started after I requested a statement on the pet showing they are healthy.

I had a bad experience with this rescue. I adopted an adult dog and was not told about any health issues. When I took the dog to our vet shorty after, I learned that the dog had severe dental issues. Ultimately, all but two teeth were removed. Big Bones did facilitate a vet providing rescue pricing for us but we still paid $500 for the adoption and another $640 for the dental work. When I reached out initially after learning about the dental issues, there was no offer of assistance or financial contribution. The owner questioned me and my vet, rather than expressing any concern for the situation. I later informed her after my dog had all but two teeth removed that I would be writing a negative review about my experience, and received an email personally attacking me. Specifically she said in her email: I hope you mature into a person who is understanding and not so self righteous, I hope you would learn that this review you plan to write to berate a rescue who does more good in this world than you will ever possibly be able to fathom sits in your conscience and I hope you grow to have a change of heart about rescues and their efforts, as you become a more compassionate and understanding individual. It takes maturity and effort to become understanding of others, and you're obviously not there yet. I wish you the best of luck with your growth as a human, and I hope what I say to you sits in your conscience and takes root to create change within you.The initial text I sent expressed concern certainly and that I was disappointed in how things were handle, but was professional and honest. I am shocked that a business, even a non-profit, would treat people this way. I have concerns first and foremost that they either do not fully vet their dogs or they do not disclose problems to those adopting. But secondarily is the incredible lack of accountability and professionalism when any issues are expressed. I hope others are careful with this rescue.

Absolutely terrible experience. I am a long-term ****** parent and have rescued two pit bulls myself through other rescues with exceptional experiences. Big Bones was not this way. I submitted an interest application for a pup and had ALREADY been approved and had a home check. I received a text from ****** with a templated text regarding that I had to go here between x-x time frame, bring all of my pets and family and etc if I wanted to meet a dog I applied for. I responded thanks so much for reaching out; I do have some questions. (I was going to ask if there was an exception as my two rescues would not do well in a situation like that as one of them was extremely abused and the other is to overstimulated in public. I received a response back stating "Are you going to ask your questions". I replied "Is this how you normally communicate with clients interested in supporting your non-profit and she said "Yes". What a terrible person to have representing your company with zero care in the world about how she is treating people. I am absolutely SHOCKED they have so many positive reviews and feedback. I will never rescue with Big Bones. STEER CLEAR - YOU WILL BE TREATED POORLY AND A TERRIBLY RAN ORGANIZATION.

Hi Gianna, we're sorry Payton's communication wasn't what you had wanted. She schedules meets for over 30 dogs each week so if she is curt, it is because she is extremely busy. Sometimes over text things can feel impersonal and we apologize for that. Good luck adopting elsewhere and thank you for adopting your current dogs! Its important to rescue and even if we aren't a fit for you, we're glad you're choosing to rescue!
