Sound Relief sets the standard for excellence in patient assessment, treatment and just general care. When major hearing device manufacturers evaluate new solutions for hearing loss and tinnitus, Dr. ***** and the Sound Relief audiologists are always consulted to ensure that the core needs of patients will be met. The practice itself, and each individual employee, are the best in the industry.

This experience has been nothing short of a nightmare, I went in with extreme tinnitus and hearing loss in my right ear, after being treated here with two hearing aids, which my specialists now have said I never should have been wearing, and after using their loaner hearing aids while mine were being fixed, I am now completely deaf in my right ear, have no word recognition and never could imagine tinnitus could be this loud, what I thought was extreme tinnitus when I first came here, was nothing compared to what I have now. It literally sounds like a smoke detector is going off in my head 24/7 and it is absolutely maddening. My only option now is a cochlear implant. I am averaging about 1 to 2 hours of sleep at night, I can't work, and I know now why people have suicidal thoughts when tinnitus is this bad. I have had 2 specialists and one renowned Doctor tell me that what this practice is doing is absolutely criminal and negligent. Owner offered a refund only if I signed a form in which they lied and said it was for insurance purposes, but when I read the form it stated that I would not file any claims against them whatsoever after I receive my refund.People need to know what the potential damages and outcomes are, especially when the damage is permanent.

As Paul Simon will attest, sudden hearing loss is a terrifying experience for anyone, and we understand that you are upset. However, insinuating that a prescriptive digital hearing aid with automatic safeguards for the maximum volume produced in the ear canal caused your sudden hearing loss is impossible and unwarranted. The advanced technology we use also has built-in tinnitus sound generators and the ability to turn off the microphones entirely for cases where amplification is not needed. While it is natural to look for a scapegoat in unfortunate health challenges, your accusations have no merit which your "specialists" should have told you themselves.

HIPAA rules will not allow us to comment specifically on your case, but the "specialists" you refer to in your email who have administered "invasive painful steroid injections" and "high doses of steroids for over a month" are not providing you with information that is helpful to your recovery. The most likely cause of sudden hearing loss in one ear - as you have described in your review - is viral labyrinthitis, cochlear hydrops, or Meniere's disease, which your "specialists" should be investigating further for you. Instead of providing a differential diagnosis, they seem to be recommending a surgical procedure for a cochlear implant as their only solution now. We kindly recommend you get a second opinion.

Please send over the names of the "2 specialists and one renowned Doctor" so that we can address their slanderous comments directly with them. We have multiple physicians, otologists, and other specialists that refer to us directly since the traditional medical model of surgery or prescription drugs can not help the majority of tinnitus patients. We are successful in helping patients every day with tinnitus and we are sorry your case was not typical.

Regarding the refund, we were only trying to help you, as we typically do not offer refunds after 18 months of device use and 18 follow-up visits.

Buyer beware! I purchased Widex devices from Sound Relief a little over 4 years ago, to treat my tinnitus. Over that time, the audiologist and staff were friendly and helpful and the devices provided me a bit of relief (recognizing there is no cure, yet). However, several weeks ago one of my devices started to malfunction and then stopped operating. I was told by Sound Relief staff that I was out of warranty (it expired after 2 years) and my options for repair were $325 (per device), including a 1 year warranty or $250 with a 6-month warranty. The warranty period was noted in the contract, but I was very surprised one of my devices stopped working only 4 years after purchase. When I contacted Sound Relief, the General Manager wrote "Most hearing aids last 3-7 years, depending on the technology level and the environment in which they are used".)If I had known 4 years ago what I know now, I would not have bought into the Sound Relief program. I spent $3900 for 4 years of modest assistance and now face the prospect of paying $325/year/device to continue to receive only incremental relief. This was not, is not, a very good use of my money.**** G

We are sorry you are unhappy with the warranty period you purchased. Your warranty was for two years, and your devices worked well for over twice long. It would be difficult for us to stay in business if we were to double - or triple as you are suggesting - our manufacturers warranty.
