I rented an old apartment from this company, and when I moved out, they held $75 from my security deposit for one broken blind that I didn't break. These were the cheapest blinds you can buy, so charging $75 for one is ridiculous. Everything in the apartment was always breaking down. The washer was out of order for over a month, and since I don't have a car, I had to send my laundry out, costing me over $100 before they fixed it. My ancient oven from the 1970s broke, and after they replaced it, they didn't even provide an extension cord to plug it in. I had to buy one myself and left it for the next tenant. This company completely lacks integrity and proper maintenance standards.

As Ms. **** notes in her review, this is a VERY old building, literally constructed in 1890.  Many people love the vintage charm of these old buildings.  But inevitably, things are going to wear out over time.  Again, per her own review, when the washer and dryer became a problem, we replaced them with a brand new set - it did not take a month.  When her stove went out, we replaced it with a brand new one.  Never was it reported to us that she needed a new extension cord, and frankly I struggle to believe it.  The old stove plugged in right there, but if a new cord was needed, it simply needed to be requested and we would have gladly had one delivered.  When issues come up, we respond promptly and don't cheap out on repairs - we're buying brand new appliances whenever needed, not bringing in used junk like many landlords might.  But when it comes to move out time, we do have a fiduciary duty to the owners of the building - and there is a process where you can report pre-existing damage.  The blinds were never noted as broken when she moved in, but were absolutely broken at move out.  And while the blind itself might not have cost $75, that was absolutely our true and actual cost with the labor.  I'm sure Ms. **** doesn't go to work for free, the handymen we send to do these kinds of jobs also don't work for free.  So yes, a whopping $75 was withheld for documented damage, yes, this is about $75!!  We're hardly the landlord wrongfully withholding the entire deposit, we simply treat people fair and if there's damage at move out at that wasn't reported at move in, our client that owns the building expects us to charge that to the person that caused the damage.

One final point, when Ms. **** lost her keys, she expected we would send someone at no-charge to let her in.  This is an eight unit apartment building, and thus we don't have 24/7 onsite maintenance - it costs us real money to send someone down to unlock doors for irresponsible people who can't keep track of their keys.  Her response was childish, again, no appreciation for the fact that she expects to be paid when she goes to work - but expects us to be her unpaid doorman.  As a courtesy, and as a goodwill gesture we ended up waiving that fee, but clearly we shouldn't have.  Some people are just destined to be miserable...

For any future landlords looking for a reference for this tenant, I gladly return the favor, she too gets a 1 star review - you'll probably get paid but she's not nice to deal with.
