  I hired Custom Deck to repair and update my waterproof deck over my garage. Assured Custom Deck could handle this type of project, I signed the contract and paid a 30% deposit in February 2023. The start date was to be in mid-July and was to take two weeks. I was informed in mid-June that the start date was July 10, but didnt hear until July 19th that they had not yet hired a local contractor and were just then getting bids! The project finally started on July 21st, but there were problems. After the membrane (Duradeck brand) was first installed, I walked out the deck door to discover a 6x3 puddle. It seems there was insufficient slope on the underlying plywood for the water to run off, so the membrane had to be torn up and redone twice. Despite assurances to the contrary, the project manager told me she had never handled a waterproof deck before.The membrane was finally installed properly on August 4th. Then I learned that the railing had yet to be ordered and would take 4-6 weeks to arrive. The railings arrived at the end of September and were installed the beginning of October. The project that was supposed to take two weeks took three months. Rather than have a new deck by mid-summer, I had no deck at all the entire season. To add insult to injury, I received repeated demands for more payments.When it was all said and done, I sent a three-page email, listing my concerns and asking for a credit of 14%. It was abruptly denied, with no explanation or consideration for my concerns. Instead, the president of Custom Deck called his attorney and threatened to *** me for slander, defamation of character, and extortion if I posted a derogatory review.The entire experience was stressful and infuriating. Given what I know now, I would never have hired Custom Decks and would not, in any case, recommend them to anyone else for this type of project.

  **** and his crew did a fantastic job on our new deck. Really excellent in design and follow through. Found them easy to work with and they did the nice "extra" things like cleaning up the site every night and keeping us informed on when they would come the next day, etc. The final product was a stunning deck that greatly helped when we had to move and sell the home. By far the nicest deck we ever had was built by them.
