On May 8, 2024, Hyundai Capital America entered into a Consent Order with the United States District Court for the Central District of California. The Order settles allegations that the business repossessed 26 vehicles leased or owned by servicemembers, which are protected under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, without first obtaining court orders. Under the terms of the Order, the business was ordered to develop policies and procedures that comply with the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act; provide compliance training of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act to key employees; pay $10,000 in compensation to each affected servicemember, provide credit repair to each affected servicemember, and pay $74,941 to the United States Treasury.
