- Additional Info:According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), there are 2 types of representatives that can assist individuals looking to immigrate to Canada: Authorized Compensated Representatives (Paid) and Uncompensated (Unpaid).
Authorized compensated (paid) representatives are:
- Lawyers and Paralegals who are members in good standing of a Canadian provincial or territorial law society (Law Society of Upper Canada)
- Notaries who are members in good standing of the Chambre des notaires du Quebec, and
- Citizenship or immigration consultants who are members in good standing of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC).
IRCC won't deal with representatives who charge a fee but aren't authorized (members of one of the above groups). If you use an unauthorized representative, in Canada or abroad, your application may be returned to you or refused.
Remember: if you give a representative money or any other type of compensation in exchange for their services, they are considered paid and must be authorized.
