Typically I have not had many negative experiences over the 15 years of being signed up with Communauto up until recently when another vehicle side-swiped the vehicle I was driving. At the time I signed up for the Open plan which charges a much higher rate than all the other plans ($13 per hour but $0 monthly fee) which I figured because it includes damage protection. However, now I find out that this "damage protection" is intended whether or not the driver is at fault. Which means now I am now having to pay for another driver's mistake even though Communauto can easily go after the other driver for damages. I would say that approximately 30% of the fleet are older and damaged vehicles which appear to have not be "fixed". The minor damage to this vehicle is definitely not a $600 value in my opinion and it would not surprise me if it is not fixed. I am now waiting to hear back from a supervisor.

Hello,Thank you for your feedback, *****, and for being a valued member for so many years. We truly appreciate your long-standing support and are sorry to hear that your recent experience was frustrating. We understand how upsetting it can be to face a damage fee, especially when you werent at fault. To clarify, as outlined on our website and in the plan terms, the selected plans default damage fee applies in the event of any incident involving damageregardless of fault. While this may feel discouraging, this approach allows us to treat all incidents consistently and ensures damage can be addressed ********** a carsharing service with thousands of vehicles, we work hard to manage costs responsibly. Due to the high cost of insurance, we often cover repair expenses directly rather than filing claims. This helps us keep premiumsand ultimately member ratesas low and stable as possible. The damage fee helps offset those out-of-pocket costs and ensures our fleet remains safe and reliable. We hope this provides more context and transparency around our policy. Thank you again for taking the time to share your concernswe value your input and your continued membership.- The Communauto Team

Communauto charges you even before you ever even touch a car! I signed up for their free plan and never even used a car and they somehow continually racked up charges. They froze my account and prevented me from using the service while continuing to charge monthly fees and interest. It's an extremely disingenuous that they can prevent you from using the service while also charging you monthly for it at the same time. I called them to resolve it multiple times and they refused to remove the fees for someone who has never even touched one of their cars.

Hello,Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. We apologize for any frustration you have experienced regarding your invoice.Upon reviewing your account, it appears that when you signed up in October of 2021, you opted into our credit card damage protection plan option, which included a $2 monthly fee. This damage protection plan was in effect until June 30, 2022, as per your request. In July, a request was made to switch your plan to one without a monthly fee, which was promptly actioned. As a gesture of goodwill, we credited your account for three months' worth of fees, which was applied on July 20th, 2023. Additionally, we made numerous attempts to communicate with you via phone and email to clarify the fees and address any concerns you may have had. Our records show that we attempted to reach you on multiple occasions, including September 5th and 6th, 2023. Unfortunately, we were unable to leave a message on the later date due to your voicemail inbox being full.Your account remains active, and upon payment of the outstanding balance, it will be ready for use. You may view your account statement live on our app to see the most recent balances and transactions. Should you wish to cancel your account, please don't hesitate to contact us by phone or through our contact form.We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us.Kindest regards,The Communauto Team

Communauto does not maintain their cars properly, and their agents are not adequately trained. We had a vehicle break down on the side of the highway. We called an agent and after half an hour of wait they informed us that the tow was over an hour away. It was getting dark and cars were zooming by fast, making it a very dangerous situation. The agent told us we had to wait there in the dangerous situation, or call the police. A tow truck passed and we asked the agent if we could just use this tow truck to get out of this dangerous situation. The agent denied this and said we either waited for another hour in a very dangerous situation, or called the police. We decided to play it safe and just use this tow truck. Communauto is refusing to pay for the tow. They don't care about your safety.

Hello,Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns through the Better Business Bureau. We understand that the unexpected expense and inconvenience you faced were frustrating, are sorry about any inconvenience you experienced. Communauto acknowledges the breakdown of the vehicle and the associated inconvenience it caused you. As part of your membership, we arranged for a tow service through our roadside assistance program. Regrettably, we understand that you opted not to wait for the estimated one-hour arrival time and declined our suggestion to contact the police for your safety concerns. Subsequently, an unauthorized tow service arrived, and you requested reimbursement. At that point, we were unable to authorize reimbursement as it fell outside the service parameters, and the vehicle still needed to be towed to the repair garage. Upon investigation, we discovered that the vehicle had a low oil level, which should have been indicated by a warning light and could lead to a breakdown. We promptly submitted your tow invoice to our roadside service for reimbursement and were since able to inform you that it has been confirmed and processed. As a result, a credit has been issued to your account. Additionally, we have reached out to you to obtain your banking information for direct deposit of the reimbursement to your preferred account. Once this information is obtained, the refund will be issued and can take a few business days to be reflected in your account. Regarding the maintenance of our vehicles, we adhere to a rigorous schedule based on recommended dates or mileage thresholds to ensure that oil changes and other standard maintenance are carried out promptly. Our vehicles are equipped with onboard computers that record odometer readings, allowing us to track and schedule maintenance accordingly. While it is not feasible for Communauto to inspect each vehicle between reservations, we rely on our members to report any issues such as dashboard warnings so that we can take immediate action to address them and prevent breakdowns. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we are committed to using it to enhance our processes in the future. We genuinely appreciate your willingness to provide us with the opportunity to clarify this situation and improve our service. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience you experienced and thank you for your continued membership with Communauto. Sincerely,The Communauto Team

Communauto is not reputable. I consider them to have stolen from **** tried to register a membership but after I was confirmed was told I had to pay upfront a $10 fee for a "***" to access the vehicle. Something which I had to retrieve from them. Not owning a car I told them I was not about to walk to get it and that I not wish to pay this surprise fee anyway. They are difficult to contact.A month or so later they used my Credit Card # to take $57 from my M/C account. They admitted the car had travelled 0 Km on my supposed usage but I had failed to cancel the reservation 2 hours prior to the rental time. They knew they had not supplied the *** and had no way of accessing the auto. So I consider this thief on their part.***********************

Communauto will not process my membership cancellation. I've contacted them three times and waited months. They owe me my membership deposit, but there's nothing I can do to get it back.
