Very frustrating. Charming guy. Travelled to my cabin near **************************, ON, to inspect wood stove and provide **** certificate for insurance in 2020. Did not open or even touch the stove. Then quoted me $4000 to put 42 square feet of brick veneer on the plywood wall behind stove. He then said he would only sign **** certificate if I accepted the quote and purchased the necessary ember pad from him. I refused the quote but agreed to buy the ember pad because I needed the **** certificate to get insurance for the property. He sold me one for $1000, that I had to pick up near ********. When I eventually got it to the cabin, I discovered the small hole in the side of box had actually broken the trim and exposed a sharp piece of metal. I followed up regularly (every other week) for months with rare and unsatisfactory responses - first to get the signed **** certificate and then regarding the damaged ember pad. He was evasive and unhelpful until he eventually just stopped responding. I hired a new *****, who is installing the veneer for less than $1000 and also identified a couple of deficiencies ***** ignored in signing the certificate (e.g. distance of exposed pipe from ceiling). I was polite throughout. Extremely disappointing. His wife seemed very nice when we picked up the ember pad. But I would not trust him again.
