Nova International Windsor NS. I dropped off a 30 year old 19 hp ****** Diesel engine Nov. of 2021 to have injectors serviced and it needed a new oil pan which was very rusty. I estimated about $600.00. No work order was made up. Seemed a simple thing as I knew half the guys in the shop and my friend and I were out in 10..15 minutes. I heard nothing all winter. I went in end of March to get it and found they had rebuilt it and the bill was $12,000.00. Unbelievably they said it was too old to get a new oil pan. No one had contacted me. Not a word. I immediately called the owner ******* ******** who said rather angrily, “I’m surprised they took in a boat motor this always happens.” He didn’t get back to me. A week later the shop manager called telling me if I don’t pay the $12,000.00 I won’t get the motor back. I made several attempts to negotiate but received no reply. I filed a small claims court claim but as I handed the claim to his secretary it became something he could ignore. I needed to serve the owner. I found that out on the court date of August 15. So I refiled a claim, came up in Nov but they hired a lawyer literally two days before so she was able to get an extension, and another one. Looks like this old sailor will miss another year and at 67, with grandkids, that hurts. My sons a SAR tech in ***** *****. He has two boys.. In their counter claim they say they showed me a compression test and I agreed to the rebuild. This is not true. And who would spend $12K on an old 19hp motor. That’s exactly the cost of a new one WITH transmission, heat exchanger, full warranty, instrumentation AND an oil pan. No invoice was ever sent and again no work order. In speaking to several friends and customers of mine this appears to be their MO. Method of operating. The next three people up the road here have experienced the same service, though my $12,000.00 tops them all. The areas largest market gardener told me to avoid them and go to ******* ******.
