I requested pricing for a Corian Solid Surface kitchen countertop, a vanity countertop, and three shower panels from Nova Countertops and Robar Countertops in Nova Scotia. Estimates from both companies were within a few hundred dollars of each other but more expensive than a quartz estimate that I received from a competitor. When I questioned the NS companies about why their estimates were so high, I did not get an answer. I was put in contact with *** Design, who I was told supplies the NS local companies with Corian. *** Design mentioned "promotions" that I should take advantage of. Neither of the two Nova Scotia companies mentioned anything to me about promotions. I decided to have Nova Countertops take my order but they could not commit to a delivery time. I contacted *** Design to see if they could tell me how long it typically takes to ship material from Montreal to Halifax. They could not tell me how long it takes to ship material from Montreal to Halifax. I then contacted a random company outside of the supply territory of *** Design in Ontario with the same kitchen, vanity, and shower design and colour specifications. Their estimate was approximately 40% LESS than the two estimates that I received from the Nova Scotia companies. I have the following questions: Is there collusion between the two Nova Scotia companies? Why are customers not made aware of the promotions so that they can make informed decisions that impact overall pricing? Why is Corian 40% cheaper in Ontario compared to Nova Scotia? I emailed Dupont regarding these questions. However, their response avoided answering my questions as they were asked. Dupont informed me that labour costs vary between geographic jurisdictions and that colour can impact pricing. I do not believe labour costs are higher in Nova Scotia compared to Ontario and colour is a moot point as I asked for the same colour estmate from all suppliers. I do not recommend Corian products sold in Nova Scotia.
