I had no BC Hydro Bill during our recent postal strike. The first bill I received was on Jan 8th. On Jan 9th I paid the bill in full. This morning I received a final notice of termination. I have been on the phone now for 42 minutes trying to reach a real person . I consider this type of letter to be a bullying tactic and totally unreasonable. I do not have an online account and I dont have an interest in one. At 72 years of age I prefer to do business the age old way. Obviously BC Hydro has not interest in customer service. I welcome ********************** to review my account for the last 50 years. Never Late. I gave it one star, because the was no lower ***** Believe me if there was a negative star I would have chosen that one.

We acknowledge and respond to the Better Business Bureau for the customer regarding their concerns about outages impacting their residence. Weve investigated and believe we have located the outage in question based on the postal code provided in the review from the customer. While ********************** outages are an unfortunate aspect of all electrical systems, we understand that they can be inconvenient and disruptive. It is important to recognize, however, that despite our best efforts, many outages are caused by factors beyond our control, such as severe weather, lightning, motor vehicle accidents, wildlife, and unexpected equipment failures.Weve reviewed the outages that impacted the residence and can confirm the main cause are due to wind-storms, and motor vehicle accidents in the area. There are no signs of any reliability concerns on this particular circuit. Power outages and emergency situations can happen at any time, so we encourage all our customers to ensure that they are prepared for unforeseen outages and other emergencies. Information about preparing your home for an outage is available on our website. We trust we have addressed the issue raised by the customer to the **********************.

BC Hydro notified a small mall full of small businesses that they planned a power outage from 930am -4pm one week before Christmas (our busiest time of year). The reason was to ***lace an old transformer that is still functioning. I realize aging transformers need ***lacing, but one week before Christmas during opening hours?I reached out to request to reschedule the outage to either after Christmas or after hours. The *** on the phone informed me that he will submit a request 'but to be honest, BC Hydro rarely accommodates requests such as these unless you are a hospital or a big box business'. As predicted, BC Hydro denied our request. After rescheduling staff and delivery trucks, notifying the alarm company and our IT department of the closure which incurred additional costs to our small business, BC Hydro cancelled the planned outage AFTER the scheduled outage!!!! Too late to get staff in to open and recoup any lost sales from one of our busiest days of the year.BC Hydro has deplorable customer service. If any other business treated their customers the way ********************** does, they would all get shut down. It is unfortunate that we are victims of this monopoly and they can get away with destroying other businesses.

We acknowledge and respond to the Better Business Bureau for the customer regarding their concerns about a cancelled planned power outage impacting their business. Weve investigated and believe we have located the outage in question based on the postal code provided in the review from the customer. Unfortunately, the outage was cancelled due to unanticipated lack of crew availability. Due to the significant windstorms that occurred throughout the week, crews were occupied with unplanned, emergent tasks, and were unable to attend the planned work that was scheduled for this particular day. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this outage and cancellation has caused for the customer, and hope this response provided a clearer understanding of why we had to cancel the outage. We trust we have addressed the issue raised by the customer to the **********************.

42 hours so far without power. Got a downed wire that is super hazardous to children in our area, we also have a lot of seniors including my father in this area that rely on power for their sleep apnea machines and breathing pumps. BC hydro keeps changing the crew status from "on scene" to "suspended" to "no crew assigned". Unlike houses our trailers are not insulated the same and we rely on power not just for heat, but to pump our water and cook our food. Everyone here has been freezing all day and all night and this has gotten out of hand. Not to mention when you call to try and figure out what's going on, you only talk to a stupid robot that is of no help. Get your s*** together BC hydro.

We acknowledge and respond to the BBB for the customer regarding the outage impacts that were caused by the bomb cyclones. We understand your frustrations and apologise for the interruption in service during these exceptional times. While power outages are an unfortunate reality of all electrical systems, we understand that any outage can be inconvenient and disruptive. On Tuesday, November 19, 2024 the ****************, ************, **************, and the ************** areas were impacted by a bomb cyclone, a very intense and rare weather event that brought heavy winds and rain and caused power outages that impacted approximately ******* customers. Shortly after, on Friday, November 22 another weather event came through the area, causing further damage and more outages. Many drought-damaged trees and branches came down on electrical equipment during the storms, causing significant damage. Our crews were busy replacing power lines, poles, and other equipment to get as many customers restored as quickly as possible. However, they encountered access challenges as a result of the heavy debris on some roads as well as areas where the wind was too strong overnight to complete the work safely.Emergency preparedness is important to BC Hydro, and we conduct post-reviews in major events for learnings and improvements. Although we cant prevent power system faults due to uncontrollable events, every effort is made to minimize the impact of outages and voltage disturbances. This is achieved through prompt field response and vegetation maintenance as required. We also use detailed records of historical outages to help identify problem areas on our lines for ways we can improve future reliability. We trust that the information provided addresses the points raised to the Better Business Bureau.

Sitting with no power for 18 hours, you can easily connect from powered area to outage areas until fixing the wires . Infrastructures are very primitive in this area

We acknowledge and respond to the Better Business Bureau for the customer regarding the outage that impacted their residence. While power outages are an unfortunate reality of all electrical systems, we certainly understand that any outage can be inconvenient and disruptive. It is important to remember that, despite our best efforts, power outages are often caused by factors beyond our control, such as wind, lightning, motor vehicle accidents, animals, and unexpected equipment failure. The outage that impacted this customer on November 4, 2024, was caused by a significant windstorm that impacted about ******* customers. This is the fourth-largest storm that we have experienced in the past decade. The circuit serving this customer had many fallen trees and debris that had to be safely removed prior to reconnecting power. Unfortunately, there were no options to feed from another circuit during this time. It is important to note, our crews worked around the clock and were faced with challenging conditions and significant damage in many areas. Power outages and emergency situations can happen at any time, we encourage all our customers to ensure that they are prepared for unforeseen outages and other emergencies. Information about preparing a home for an outage is available on our website. We trust we have addressed the concerns raised by the customer to the **********************.

Sitting with no power for over 8 hours. There was a planned shutdown but they did NOT notify our area - cant cook breakfast lunch dinner, cant do laundry, care for my aging parent - happy Sunday Hydro, great work. Cant wait till there is competition-should not plan shutdowns when there are no live agents to contact!!

We acknowledge and respond to the Better Business Bureau's case for the customer regarding a ********************** outage that took place at their premises.Weve reviewed the outage details and have identified an error in our records. Unfortunately, as a result of this error, not all impacted customers received notification prior to the outage. We are updating our records to ensure this error does not happen in the future. The outage in the customer's community was required for crews to safely perform necessary system maintenance. This work was scheduled for a Sunday to minimize the impact on the school district, as well as a daycare and city-owned sites in the area. However, we regret the disruption this outage had on the customer that day.We understand the impact an outage can have on our customers and sincerely apologise the frustration this has caused.

One star is generous!! BC Hydro estimated a manufacturing business account for more than ten months. Original July 2023 to April 2024. $14,000-$15,000/month estimated charges. The months prior to the estimation and after the estimation are around $3000/month less than the estimated ******** received. No one at BC Hydro has been able to address this complaint. They replied that the estimation is based off the previous year's consumption. They continually give "BC Hydro" policy information instead of someone actually being responsible to understand and correct this discrepancy. Why would it not be made more of a priority for this large estimated billing meter be repaired more timely? BC Hydro repair team is located within one hour of this manufacturing operation. BC Hydro started estimating in July 2023 and changed the meter in January 2024. Continued to estimate and adjust invoices going back to May 2023 up to and including April 2024 in May 2024. The estimated amounts average $14,324.84 (11 months estimation numbers) and $15,757.32 (ten months) The billing amounts prior to the estimation were $10,-12,000/month and the billing after the estimated ******** are $10-12,000/month. This is obvious over charging due to the over estimation of $3,000/month for 11 months. That would be around $30-33,000 over charged due to the estimation calculations!! Please someone explain this discrepancy. Absolutely unacceptable and no where to turn to, to have this reviewed and dealt with accordingly.

We are currently looking to get a home connected with BC Hydro. After about 2.5 weeks with messages and an email and multiple calls to ExpressConnect we finally got a voicemail from them. This is extremely subpar for a province wide company. Businesses like this in an open marketplace would be bankrupt in short order. All we want is decent service despite the fact that we have to accept their billing without competition. Hoping they will make an effort to rectify this and we can move on.
