I had brakes serviced on Thurs June 6/24, and they failed Fri June 7/24 on a steep hill in Burnaby. The car was stopped by steering into a retaining wall, which resulted in the car landing on its roof, and destroyed. I was required to go to ***** ********* ******** by ambulance to be checked out...minor scrapes only. On June 22/24 I visited Shortstop to inform them of the brake failure where photos of the destroyed car were shown. They denied any responsibility, and refused to refund the cost of the brake job in part or full. This ****** ***** was used as my courier vehicle and despite fairly high mileage, had been well-maintained by Shortstop for years. However, Shortstop was sold to new ownership several months before my accident, and it appears they have a new approach to customer service. I now take my replacement vehicle to a different repair shop, and do not recommend Shortstop.

Please see the letter we sent to **** when the customer disputed the charges for the service. This was dispute was not supported by ****. To Whom It may concern, We received a dispute of charges for work completed on June 6th, 2024, for a routine brake job. All the work was completed by our 12-year Red Seal Technician. We as owners of Shortstop Auto Service spoke to the customer when he came into the shop after the accident. The customer described the incident to us, that he was coming down a hill with his vehicle overloaded with packages for delivery. In the description of the accident the customer noted he had brakes then didn’t then back again. We noted that we installed brake pads and rotors which are friction points, and these points do not work then not work then work again. ICBC did not find fault in the mechanical failure. The police also asked the customer if speed was a factor or was, he distracted in his accident. This accident is very unfortunate; however, we installed brake pads and rotors and cannot be held responsible for an accident possibly due to driver error and or speed.
