First, I like Uber but as a 75-year-old woman there are problems. Then I saw the "Uber" Granny Go Go phone number.
I had to return a family-size microwave via a Canada Post office in order to get my $409 back from Amazon. Since you can't speak to people at Uber, I believed that "Granny Go Go" was part of Uber until I called them.
First, their head office is in San Francisco and they sub-contract to Lyft, Uber and who knows what else.
Second, they asked for a $29.00 deposit from my charge card that I could get back if this was a one-time trip. It was.
Then the woman added or tried to add a $1 charge "to verify" card. The $29 went thru, but the $1 was flagged as suspicious and my card was cancelled! Was I pissed!
Third, they asked for an $11 charge to pay the driver, which I did with my backup charge card.
Fourth, I was told that they contact a driver and explain the help that the senior Granny needs. They also ensured me that a "guide" would be with the driver the whole time to instruct him -- this is all a lie!
What really happened: I requested a driver that needed to take me and a family-sized microwave to the post office as I needed the receipt for Amazon and a return trip for me. I was asked if I wanted a male or female??? I need a strong male - did this operator hear anything I had told her???
So: a guy arrives, parks, comes to my door and asks what I need. I asked him "was he not told"? Nope. He was only told that a person needed help. I explained the issue. He was a regular Uber Toronto driver. He drove to the post office, parked on a street that was possible, and then he and I walked across Bloor to the post office. I opened the door for him and he sent to the desk. He told me that he was finished. It was a one-way trip, and he had another call.
I took the TTC bus home.
Follow up: I called the next day to cancel. The guy tried to sell the service by saying that they deliver groceries, transport seniors, etc. I explained that Toronto grocery stores already deliver.
