Buyer be very aware! I signed with Great Lakes roofing on 4/22. I told my sales rep I still wanted to get more quotes and he assured me I had up until the day of the install to cancel and not to worry. I signed a contract with them for $******.
A couple days later, my other two quotes came in for $****** and $****** for comparable work and product. These companies had much better reviews. When I called to cancel my contract, I was told me I was past the rescission right to cancel. Now they tell me I am obligated to pay a 15% cancellation fee, which is almost $*****, because they've already ordered the material.
I have a licensed builder as a friend that flat out told me all of these shingles are in stock everywhere (I went with charcoal, a very common choice). I also called several building supply companies to find out if this product was in their yard and they all said yes.
Even after several talks with their VP, he was not interested in any other kind of resolution, but sticking with "it was in the contract, and you signed it". I even offered to buy the material, but he would not consider it. He threatened using his lawyer, and allowed for no other recourse (pay the 15%, or see you in court).Review fromJake J

I had great lakes, replace my roof and my gutters. The salesman was very informative. They reached out to me ahead of scheduling my job. Things went exactly as they described. Excellent communication. My roof was done in a day, and a separate crew came out two days later to do my gutters. My roof and gutters look great, and the whole experience was a good one.

1st appointment I was forced to reschedule because my husband wouldnt be there or they would forego my business.2nd appointment that I was forced to make, salesperson didnt show up. I CALLED, not them and their solution was to send their manager because he could give me better deals than anyone else could. I waited over 2 weeks without receiving an estimate and no response to several text messages. I CALLED THEM back and was informed that the 3rd guy/manager no longer worked there. Of course I proposed the question, why wouldnt someone have contacted me to follow up and explain?! The solution this time was to send out their VP and I would be given their absolute bottom line pricing. Appointment #4 they actually came to. Bottom line pricing even considering all of the poor business practices listed above was OVER $52,000 estimate!!!FIFTY TWO THOUSAND, FIVE HUNDRED NINETY FIVE DOLLARS for2 car garage, layer of shingles over existing, siding, gutters and installation of a window I already purchased andA 1000 sq foot bungalow siding and gutters!!!DONT WASTE YOUR TIME! More than double what anyone else quoted me and that was after they were unreliable on more than 1 occasion. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because I actually thought the estimate would reflect the fact that I gave them 3 strikes and the opportunity to still earn my business. All they earned was me telling everyone that I possibly can to not waste their time with this company.Great Lakes Home Remodeling

Let us first reassure we NEVER force any potential customer to reschedule, let alone make an appointment with our Product Specialists. We are a customer-friendly home remodeler encouraging mutually beneficial outcomes of home improvement success. With that being said, we do encourage when setting a consultation up with our Project Specialist to have all homeowners and/or decision makers to be in attendance during the consultation, which is complete with a full home energy analysis and home inspection, for complete transparency per the BBB Ethic Guidelines as a courtesy. Unfortunately, our Product Specialist took leave, however our Vice President of Operations was immediately reassigned to all follow-up appointments of the former Product Specialist. Our VP of Operations swiftly made contact with you and due to his conversation with you he immediately felt it was important to suggest and initiate a follow-up appointment with you to ensure all information was communicated correctly, including the final estimate. It should be noted, the original estimate requested by you was for the detached garage only, however when our VP of Operations came out the personally the estimate was upgraded to include the unattached home as well. Unfortunately the square footage of the home you noted does not include the detached garage square footage and may be where the disconnect in price begins. In all honesty, we are not the most, nor the least expensive exterior home remodeler, however we are proud to share we are a brick and mortar company, fully insured and licensed, offering factory-certified installers who are talented and professional, and offer all work installed with a solid warranty. Many companies cannot offer a fraction, if any, of these professional assurances we do in their estimates and may be why their estimate is so much lower than our final estimate. In these cases when estimates are different - small or large as you suggested we always encourage an Apples to Apples Estimate Comparison follow-up meeting. We would most definitely encourage you to reconnect with us so we might assist you in comparing the other estimate(s) to analyze if we misunderstood your needs, or what the other competitor(s) left off from the estimate to be so much lower than ours. I got several quotes and decided to go with Great Lakes for a metal roof. I have the best house on the block now. They had the best warranty out of the other companies that came out. They were half the price of another roofing company that offers metal roofing. If I could give 10 stars I would!!!Great Lakes Home Remodeling

I Had a quote from another Metal Roofing company that left feeling that I could not ever afford a new metal roof then I ran across this company on facebook and i'm so glad I did. They came out were very respectful and thorough. Not only was it More affrdable then my other quote but the product was in my opinion so much better. Great Lakes Home Remodeling brought a new look to my home with the asphalt look alike metal roof called Stone Coated Metal Roof! My husband and I really enjoyed the presentation and felt the investment was invaluable. We're not planning on staying forever in Toledo, but another 11 years without having to replace our roof was huge factor in our decision. Thank you for educating us! As for the installation of our roof that was also refreshing as we were scheduled for 2 weeks out per our schedule - NOT THEIRS - and they were done in a bit over a day! It was fun to watch the transformation. We cannot thank you enough...now we are going to watch our utility bills and see if the promises of savings come over the next year!!! I feel it is only fair I share my experience in the review that follows. I needed a roof replacement and I am a new home owner I have only lived in my home for 2 years, and wanted to collect some quotes on a roof replacement since money is tight in my household. Great Lakes Home Remodeling was to first company to reach out to me. There sales representatives where accommodating to my busy schedule and were able to meet up after 6 pm. The Great Lakes sales representative performed a very thorough inspection of my roof and attic for about an hour. Then he proceeded to presenting the products and explaining to my wife and I, his findings. We desperately needed a roof replacement. The sales representative took advantage of our situation and used pressure sales tactics on us and I strongly believe that the roof he was selling to us was over priced. I also asked their sales rep numerous times that if I had to cancel regardless the reason we wouldn't be hit with a cancelation fee. The rep reassured us that wouldn't happen. So my wife and I agreed to sign the contract and we would consider canceling if another roofing company provided us with a lower quote. Well, four days later another roofing company gave us a quote that was half what Great Lakes Home Remodeling quoted us for practically the same roof and warranty, So I called up Great Lakes to cancel and they said we couldn't do that unless we pay a fee of 20% of there project to cancel since there three day cancelation window had closed. Reluctantly, we proceeded as planned even though their sales rep lied to us about the cancelation fee. I will say this, I was very impressed by the installers. They were very efficient and kept my yard clean during the roof replacement. Overall, I would give the sales department at Great Lakes Home Remodeling one star or two stars and their installers five stars. I strongly believe I over paid for the roof replacement, I guess that is lesson I learned the hard way.Great Lakes Home Remodeling

************** we are disappointed to learn we did not earn a 5-Star review due to the transparent contract which follows all State and Federal Guidelines and does allow for a 3-day Cancellation without any penalty as the Sales Rep explained and reassured you and your wife during the final contract signing. The Cancellation is a separate page of the contract for full customer transparency and must be signed by all parties. As noted in the review, you attempted to cancel on the fourth day which per the Cancellation th 'Buyer(s) agrees to pay a cancellation fee equal to 15% of this Agreements purchase price'. We are very sorry for any frustration or unhappiness this brought as it was not our intention. However, we want to add we are very happy to learn the installers did a fine job. I've dealt with a lot of companies over the years, Great Lakes was probably my best overall experience from beginning to end. My metal roof was started and completed the same day, Completely blown away with how well everything went. I would highly recommend A++Great Lakes Home Remodeling
